Are there any subscribers from the UK that want share there experiences in terms of cost, shipping and taxes and general issues or lack of so that I can get an idea of what I can expect.

Best idea is to subscribe to access the member offer then place your shipping of subscriptions on long term hold. This means you can still buy the slip-cased editions whenever you want but at bulk order sizes to save a fortune on shipping.
I know you are a BIG FS fan and you cannot compare apples with oranges as FS and LOA do different things, but the LOA are top notch in my opinion in delivering their mission.
As far as VAT I believe there is nothing to worry about in importing books to the UK as books are exempt anyway: bulk shipping is a flat rate no matter the number of volumes; cost is a straightforward buy in USD.
I have never returned book. They are extremely robust.

>2 LesMiserables: Thank you LesMis. I know that you’re a big FAN of LOA so it’s not the first time that I’ve asked you for your opinion. I’m still at the crossroads with the idea to go ahead or not but what I can do is have a look at the whole catalogue and mark the ones I’m interested in. I’m more into the history/political part of the catalogue, Lincoln, Jefferson, etc.
