I am trying to donate a series of microfilm...the NYT from September 1851-December 1979. I have contacted every library in the area trying to give this away and either the libraries already have it or have no interest in it. Suggestions, please?

>1 lrcricket: You don't say what area you are actually in, so that we would know what area you've tried. Microfilm is a pretty expensive item to support, and for most cash strapped libraries, having a reader, and the space for it, and the proper storage for the microfilm, is all an additional expense.

A few more details, please.

Thanks for your reply for more info. I am in Little Rock, AR. The microfilm would be donated with the storage cabinet in which it is housed. I also have a microfilm reader to donate, though it is (no surprise) very old.

Access to the NYT archives via internet until 1922 is free, and more recent articles are not that expensive.

Right. I know. And I understand why nobody really needs/wants this stuff. I just don't know how to get rid of it. There's just something about throwing it in a dumpster that I can't handle!

>5 lrcricket: No offense, but why are you trying to pass off your problem to someone else? Just throw it out and sell the cabinet on ebay or Craigslist.

You could also try listing the microfilm itself on ebay or etsy as a crafting or resource supply for artists or craftspeople to re-purpose. No idea what they might do with it, but it could sell to someone.

You could also try freecycle.com, or the section of Facebook where people sell things, and just say it's free: maybe a local homeschool group or science club might have fun with exploring an old microfilm reader as a group project.
