This is listed as as series, but it's simply two editions of the same book -- one in a single volume, and one in two volumes. For a second there, I was pretty excited; this is my favorite reference book. :)

Looks like someone is using Series here instead of Collections or Tags, which would be more appropriate. It is also not a publisher series, just a number of books he decided should belong together because they have the same title.

That's actually a fairly common way on here of publicly grouping together books that belong together. Encyclopedias also tend to be listed as a series, to link the books together in order.

I suspect that this was set up before we had work-to-work relationships.

Some people used to make series to keep track of books that needed combining. Could be this one slipped away.

To me that makes exactly as much sense as ripping a book into three pieces and listing it as a series of three books, but if it's the thing that's done, it is.

EDIT: Never mind. Making it worse isn't any use.

"But it isn't one book. It's two volumes."
There still remains the problem of the third book we see.
I have now changed the Order designator to "single-vol. edition", which makes it clearer that this is just a different edition of the books designated "1" and "2". I hope :-) .

It could be a two-volume set which has been cataloged as a single entry. (Looking at the editions list https://www.librarything.com/work/239117/editions that's a pretty common thing to do.)
