Hey folks are there any other of you Irish Librarythingers from Donegal or have roots in the County. Just curious.

Family tradition has my immigrant ancestor Hugh Hyland coming from Co. Donegal, Ireland, to Maryland, USA, but no one I know of has been able to find documents to nail this down. The family name Hyland is reported to be a variation of Whelan, coming out of Co. Waterford and Co. Kilkenny. Hugh, by the way, immigrated sometime before 1770, so we're pretty far removed from our Irish cousins.

Hi J,
Glen Carrigart is only about 30 minutes from where I live in Letterkenny. Have you ever come over here to visit?

Hi Os,
Thanks for that, Hyland is not a common name in Donegal, but you are Irish that's for sure. I will check out if I can find anyone in Donegal with the name and let you know. Thanks for the post.Take care. Jimmy

Greetings:
I have not gotten a chance to visit Carrigart yet. I hope to do so sometime in the next couple of years.
Best regards.

". . . ʻFrom Donegal or have roots . . ." (1)
a belated answer
My maternal grandmother, Celia
Houghton was born on Inistrahull,
which belonged to County Donegal.
Her mother, whose maiden name
was Crossan, and who, Iʻve heard was
the last Irish-speaker in the family, was
a later immigrant than her daughter
to Boston, MA. Celia married my grand-
father Francis Mallon who was born in
County Armagh.
