Not sure of the name of the place, but currently in a port-city-ish town in Fanuilh. Kind of a cozy-mystery sort of story so far, with a mini-dragon/familiar as the only (sort of) witness to a wizard's murder.

Also still working my way through Dust of Dreams that I started back in January. :P I'm plodding my way through it because I'm too close to the series end to stop now, but if I'd known two books ago that I would be this bored (and occasionally vehemently angry) this close to the end, I think I'd have stopped.

>7 Niko:, boredom is an interesting reaction to Malazan's big finish. Anger ... that has to be due to Hetan, yes? The Tor.com re-read went deeply into this.

If you've made it this far then yes, do try to see it through. Note that DoD is like the first half of the ending, it's the only volume that isn't really standalone.

>8 Cecrow: Yeah, I know it's not a standalone, but I just hit a point in this series where I have no more spoons to care about new characters/groups, so the way this book has required me to be invested in the Barghast/Akrynnai and K'Chain Che'Malle and a bunch of new T'lan Imass groups who've suddenly appeared out of thin air... it was a huge enthusiasm killer for me right from the start, and even at page 700, with the Barghast/Akrynnai stuff thankfully taken off the center of the stage, I still find myself feeling an urge to just skim a lot of it.

I care about the Malazans and Malazan-adjacent folks like the Perish and Burned Tears. I care about the Letherii folks like Brys Beddict and Shurq Elalle. Even though much of the Bonehunters plot in this book has been various squad members sitting around going "Boy, there's some deep shit coming our way in the next book, isn't there?", I still find their chapters 10x more engaging than any of the other stuff.

(And yeah, Hetan. If I end up in "Malazan wasn't worth reading" state by the end of this series, I'll be able to point to a single sentence that was the turning point that pushed it there.)

Finished Fanuilh. The story ended up being fairly slight, but I enjoyed it enough to order a couple more books in the series.

Started The Fox, with a quick jump into piratey peril. Very much looking forward to this one.

I'm traveling above fantasyland after picking up The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Apparently this Douglas Adams has traveled around the Milky Way several times ;)

Finished The Thousand Names by Django Wexler. Really enjoyed the book. Next up is A Taste of Honey by Kai Ashante Wilson.

Finished A Taste of Honey. The Kindle edition was so badly formatted it was almost unreadable. It definitely destroyed the flow and enjoyment of the story. Next into the rotation is All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders.
