Foreign language awful lit

Les Chevaliers d'Émeraude (The Emerald Knights - oups, homonym issue there...), by Anne Robillard is a terrible, terrible fantasy book. It was probably the single worse book I could ever manage to finish. It is not in my librarie out of the fact that I gave it away because i refused to keep it around. It was that bad.

It is, to quote my original comments, which I am translating from French, an insipid and disappointing book at best. The story is as linear, shallow and simplistic as they come, and sugary to the point of diabets. Geography and culture are nothing short of surrealist and the book is only a complete story as far as there is a divide at the end, unlike theactualy trilogies of Bernard Werber and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Now I add, if that was fanfiction, it would have some pretty awful Mary Sues.

A commenter to that post adds: I read all 8 books to please an insisting friend. Trust me, things don'tget any better before vol. 7, and not even by much... And she's got a scary ego to go with that. Not only did I write better than that at 15, but she's one of those authors dead-set against fanfiction. ［...］

Atomised by Michelle Houellebecq had a couple of laugh-out-loud moments but was mostly a detached chronicle written in an academic style about uninteresting and unsympathetic people. French intellectual soft porn.

Therese Desqueyroux by Mauriac remains the most dismal and depressing book I have ever read.
