First of yes, I collect weird/offbeat novels. Mostly those by Marie Corelli. I also have a nice library of Nathaniel Hawthorne and attempting to get another such library of Louisa May Alcott's novels in the same binding. I have been branching out a bit and exploring other Victorian romances and their authors.

What brings me to poking about in the talk section is that I just recently started to read Robert Elsmere and am completely distressed at the fact that only 2 chapters in, 2 pages have already become loose. Now this is not a beat up, abused copy. The binding is beautiful, no marks on the boards, and the spine is nice and tight without a single hint of a start in the hinges.

I am looking for a book repair in or near Indianapolis (where I live) or Cincinnati (where my parents live) that would give me an honest opinion on whether the book can be fixed and at what price. If it cannot, I will not part with it as the binding is too exquisite.

Please help!

Jess

>1 chevydevil: Google is your friend. Several bookbinders in Indianapolis:

National Library Bindery Co of Indiana (317) 636-5606 http://www.nlbco.com/

Eckhart & Co. Inc. (317) 347-2665 http://eckhartandco.com/ Their website has a page with tips on preparing your book.

These don't have websites:

Emerson Bookbinding Co. (317) 568-1340

Express Binding (317) 269-8114

Edited to fix a stray link

Thanks a bunch! I will definitely look into these. When I posted I was at work where a lot of websites are blocked but not librarything.

One more thought: if you want to try tipping in the loose pages yourself, see the Book Care and Repair group for helpful hints.

I'm leaving you a private comment with the names & addresses of some bookbinders in those areas.

One book binder I found who does his rebinding by hand is Master Book Binder in Indianapolis. He has put a new cover and binding on a Bible I had. Good guy and has been doing it for a while.
