Is anyone else watching the Poldark series on PBS?

The books have been on my wishlist for some time but I haven't read any of them yet. I missed the show's first episode, so I'm trying to piece together the story from the second and third episodes. I don't know how many episodes are coming.

Yes. Loving it. I've read the first and second books (after seeing the series), which pretty much line up with Season 1.

Goodness me, you poor deprived Americans! Here in Oz we are currently enjoying Series 2 - and isn't Aiden Turner just too gorgeous for words, even with his shirt on.

Series 2 just getting started here (watched Episode 3 this weekend). I also stumbled on a couple episodes of the original PBS Poldark from the 80's on a retro TV channel...interesting to compare the two.

The first two books, Ross Poldark and Demelza are good reads...I learned much more about the copper mining and smelting business than I might have cared to otherwise, but I'm looking forward to hunting down the next one.

I'm also enjoying season 2! The 9th and final episode will air over Thanksgiving weekend.

The original Poldark was on PBS's "Masterpiece Theater" from 1977-78 with the late Alastair Cooke as host. It's now available on DVD.

I am Canadian and have not seen this BBC movie. However I am up to Book 7 in the series and enjoy it very much. I wish the series came to Canada.

Amazon Prime members can watch season 1 on Amazon video. Season 2 episodes are available also, but you have to pay for them. Season 1 is included with Prime.

I just watched Episode 7 last night. I don't want to give away spoilers, but I was yelling at my tv quite a bit towards the end. I'm very angry with Ross right now.

I have read all of the Poldark books twice! The current TV series is more accurate of the novels than the 1970s series was. It is exceedingly well done. The older series was excellent for its time. The novels are top-notch in every respect: historically informative, depth of character, varied conflict, authentic dialogue, eloquent narration.

>9 HaroldTitus: Thanks for your insights about the mini-series. That is helpful coming from someone who has read the books.

I have been watching the BBC mini-series on PBS but only read Ross Poldark, so far. Since I didn't watch the 1970s series, I really cannot make a personal comparison. I do know of a few people who did watch the original series and now are refusing to entertain the new one. Too bad, as I think they are missing out.

For the new series, it seems they did take a few liberties. For example, if memory serves Elizabeth had blond hair in the book. They also left out or changed a few details. I am glad to learn that is fairly accurate to the books, as are most BBC productions that I have had the plessure of watching.

>8 Darth-Heather: I felt the same way!! It made me wonder if I wanted to read more of the books in the series too. I wonder if Aiden Turner received some unpleasant fan mail after that episode?

Finished the series (PBS) this weekend...closure for now :)

Experts, how many books does that take us through?

Season 1 is based on Ross Poldark and Demelza. Season 2 is based on Jeremy Poldark and Warleggan. Season 3 is currently filming and will reportedly be based on The Black Moon and the first half of The Four Swans.

I liked how the season finale wrapped things up, but it's going to be along wait...

Oh, you poor Americans are deprived yet again! Season 3 began last night. They're setting up a pretty melodramatic - and highly unlikely - plot, but it's tremendous fun.

Keep your eye on Aunt Agatha - she gets in some great snarky asides... :D

It was bothering me that George Warleggan's nasty uncle Cary seemed familiar somehow in a way I'd not noticed before; it turns out that he is none other than Pip Torrens, aka Herr Starr on Preacher! The Starr character was introduced during this year's Preacher season, and I never connected him with his Poldark character. He makes such a great bad guy.

Thumbs up for Aunt Agatha -- she goes a long way toward filling the void left by the Dowager Countess on Downton Abbey :)

Well, I've seen the whole series so I probably shouldn't tell you that Aunt Agatha doesn't just stop at snarky asides.

The plot gets sillier and sillier, but it's great fun. There's a new villain about to be introduced who makes Uncle George look like a pussycat.

I watched on Sunday night! PBS "Masterpiece" combined episodes 1 and 2 from the UK broadcast. If you were watching closely, there was a "fade to black" for a few seconds from Ross and Demelza on the beach to a sunrise scene.

Season 4 has started airing in the US. Has anyone watched the first episode?

I hear that there will only be one more season after this. But then the producers will begin work on a tv version of The Count of Monte Cristo, which will probably be worth a look.
