A lot of people on the internet said that the play/ book felt like fan fiction, rather than canon, and I have to agree. I also thought it was weird that the Time Turners operated Ina different manner than the one in PoA.
When the Delphi-was-Voldemort's- child line appeared, I felt like that was a holy **** moment, similar to Kingsley's patronus at the wedding or the Harry is a horcrux scene.
I found it disconcerting that Harry, who never had a proper family, told Albus that he wished they weren't father and son.
Ginny felt more b.a., like books Ginny, rather than movie Ginny.
My favorite part: Albus pretending to be Ron, telling Hermione that they should have another baby. Typical blunt Ron ( even though it wasn't him) and at the worst possible moment.

>2 06nwingert: I think you have a lot of good points. Harry, Ron, and Hermione didn't always ring true to me, though I liked the younger characters. I'm surprised that Albus' siblings had such minor roles, though all in all I liked the younger characters better than the adults. (Loved the Snape cameo, though!)
I was surprised that they zipped through four years so quickly, and I'm wondering, in terms of stagecraft, how they do that in a believable way. I wondered that a lot, actually. I'd like to see this on stage, and I hope it comes to Broadway someday, as I can't afford to spring for a trip to London right now.

OK, so I just finished it.
Random thoughts while reading: Is this really how scenes are set up on a script or is this just for the reader?
How long is this play? It must go on for five or six hours. (Imagine my surprise to discover it's actually split into two plays!)
How are they managing all this scenery? (Sparse set, actually. Thanks again, Google)
Sooo...I kind of thought that Delphi wasn't a surprise. I even figured out who her mom was before it was mentioned, which did make it a bit fan-fictionish for me. The whole alternate realities thing also read like fan-fiction, but I like a good What if... so this was fine.
I really enjoyed the scenes with Scorpius and Albus. I would have preferred more scenes with them in the early acts. I thought it odd to start out 19 years later and then rush ahead four more years, only showing the send offs to Hogwarts. I know the title is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but I felt like we spent too much time with the veteran characters and most of them seemed a bit...2 dimensional?...in this. I would rather have set us off into the next generation of characters. As much as I enjoyed seeing Snape and others again, their stories have been finished. I did think they managed to tighten up Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione in the final acts, I just wish they had seemed more alive at the beginning. I think they did best at adding depth to Draco. I really wanted happiness for him by the end. I also wanted Scorpius and Albus to be a couple, but maybe that was influenced by Rainbow Rowell's book. :o)

In general I agree with most of the points made, but I feel that the problems with the characters are because this was simply a script - seeing the play would probably make the characters much more real than reading the script (assuming the performances are as good as the reviews indicate!)
I think a better option would have been to wait to release the story in book form, probably another year or two, and to then release it as a novel rather than a script. But the modern "I want it NOW!" philosophy has taken effect, I guess.
Mind you, I enjoyed it. I loved having a new HP story, and that would have been enough to satisfy me however poor it was - and I thought it was overall quite good.

I finished it this morning. I enjoyed moments in it, and thought the plot ok. I would have preferred reading it in novel format.

I saw it on Broadway this past weekend! I still have problems with the characterization and plot, but the acting was great (of course) and the stagecraft was beyond fantastic! I'm still trying to figure out how they achieved certain effects. All in all, I'd recommend seeing a live production, if you can manage it.
