Age 10, permitted to be up late at summer camp because my counselors understood the significance to me. Watching Neil Armstrong descend the steps of the Lunar Module will forever remain one of the vivid, formative memories of my life.

I googled moonwalk and got a page of Michael Jackson.

Yep, my Dad woke me up to watch the landing where we were on the east coast. We walked outside to look at the moon also later and wonder at the event.

I think my parents were the most affected, they were stunned into silence and crashed before the kids. My grandmother, born in 1899, who lived with us could still remember the first auto she saw as a kid and how they ran down to the road to watch it.

I was in the army (National Service) on that day. Our Boss, a rather crusty Major (I was his driver) said to me, go to the orderly room, they have a TV (Black & White of course) and watch it.
I think there were at least 10 people in that tiny orderly room. After a few hours...It was Magic.

Looking back, that old curmudgeon must have had a sense of history :-)

Somewhere I have a photograph of our TV screen (of course black and white, as was the film). I vaguely remember just making out the edge of Neil Armstrong's pack in that photo.

>5 guido47: I think it was one of my Dad's fellow veteran friends who called him and explained it was going to be quite the historical event - he rarely watched much on TV except the news and getting the kids to all do the same thing at the same time was like herding cats. A black & white TV was nothing to snort at in those days especially while trying to reach middle class!
