Connie ROOT's again in 2016 part 3

I'm back again for 2016. I need to do some further ROOTing to get those unread books removed from the shelves. My goal is 36 books that have been there for half a year or more.
My TBR is now 535 books.

I'm Connie from the Netherlands. I am 63 years young. I'm married to Peet (65)
2 children: Jeroen (33) and Eveline (30)
Proud 'kind of' mother in law to Rianne (28). She and Jeroen are living in a nice house right near where we live.
Cyrille (33) is living with Eveline in a city not too far away. They are expecting their first child in June. So Yeah! I'm going to be a grandmother or oma (as we say in Dutch).

On top you can see our house as it is today. It's sunny and nice and warm (May 2)

The new week started out well. I cleaned the frig and some of the kitchen drawers. Off to see my Physical therapist and after that an afternoon in the sun with my book.

I love seeing other peoples' bookshelves and yours are wonderful, Connie! I love all the ornaments. I do that in my library too, and, like you, have some ornaments from family members.

It sounds like a good day - cleaning, taking care of yourself, and reading.

>19 Tess_W: We have several short vacations. 6 weeks in the summer, 2 around Chrstmas and Newyear, 1 week in Februari (carnaval), 2 weeks in April/May (kingsday, liberation day and memorial day) and 1 week in Oktober. And several single days too.

I like the way vacations are spread over the school year now. 6 or 7 weeks school and 1 or 2 weeks off. That is a nice balance I think.

I finished another ROOT. Number 12 for the year
Anne Bishop - Zwarte veren. A 7 for me. It's not as strong as the first part in the series was. The first 75 pages have lots points were things from book 1 are explained of told again. That will work when enough time has passed between the two books, but for me it was a bit to much, reading them one after the other. But in the end the story gets interesting again. 7/10

For the May-challenge for my real-live bookclub we have to read a book that was chosen in the past for all the categories we have.
That could be an
FF = Foreign Fantasy - book in another language chosen to read (6 books a year)
Opperboek = Book chosen to read together (6 books a year)
Sidekick = Book that ended as runner up to the Opperboek (6 books a year)
Challenge boek = Any book read by an other member for a monthly challenge in the past.
The only thing is, it can't be a book read in any of those categories by another member in this year.

I hope my explanation makes sense ;-))

Re: my house. Yes it was a very sunny day. The big tree in front of the house has lost most of it's blossom. It's very beautiful when in full bloom.

Studie van vuur wasn't as good as part 1 and 2. It looked af if it was written by someone else who used words and sentences from the first two books a lot! And who thought nobody would notice. Really disappointing ***

Although this book has the House that allows Harper to travel to other times it's more like a thriller with all the killing going on. But I'm liking it very much so far.

>53 connie53: Yes, Connie. I will be sitting on the deck under a 3 foot overhang that goes all the way around our house, so it will be shady. Surgery is June 6, assuming a cardiologist and my regular doctor give the green light. I have that appt. on Tuesday.

I can't even imagine how frustrating that must be to get halfway through a series and they stop translating it! I hope they translate them all, and quickly!

Just a quick Sunday Hello, Connie! I hope you're having a good day and getting in some good reading.

I did some reading and in the morning some ironing. The weather turned cold again. I tried sitting in the sun, but the wind was strong and there were lots of clouds. So I came back inside and sat in behind the window in the sun and out of the wind. After dinner I started another jigsaw puzzle. My son and his girlfriend bought me a new one for Mother's Day.

I finished Stralende meisjes by Lauren Beukes and I give it a 7.

I think it's a bit strange. There is a hole in the plot. Some things aren't explained and that is a bit disappointing for me. And you should be prepared to make leaps in time. Each chapter is in an other year. You jump back and forth the whole time.
It's exciting but sometimes very cruel. If you think Val Mcdermid is bad, you might reconsider reading it.

Re the Mitchell book. page 63. The writing is nothing like the other books I've read by him. The style is, but the language is old Dutch. Appropriate, because the book starts in 1799 and that's what was spoken then. But that takes some getting used too.
Here on LT the book is named as the first of the Horologists trilogy.
The second one is Tijdmeters, the third one Doorgang.
David himself says that he spend a part of 2006 in The Netherlands, funny!!

I really like the book I'm reading right now. It's De niet verhoorde gebeden van Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. The setting is Japan in 1799 - 1800 and it took some getting used to but now I'm into the story. So for anyone who has some connection with Japan, I can recommend it.

Horology is the scientific study of time. Specifically, horology involves the measurement of time and the making of clocks. You need a small leap of imagination to see hour in horology, but if you do, you've pretty much nailed the meaning: it refers to the study of time and the art of making timepieces.

Yesterday we had an LT-meet up in Leiden. Darryl (Kidzdoc), Claire (Sakerfalcon) and her sister Karen were there. And Mark (Thorold), Sanne (Ennas), Jaqueline (Zjak) and Ester (Wester). So we were 8 in total. We had a very nice time. The weather was perfect and we visited the Hortus Botanicus and strolled around the city.

Tijdmeters by David Mitchell a ***** book. I really, really loved it. Very good writing, very good plot, very lovable main character. In fact a shed a lot of tears in the end.

Really a very good book! I loved the way David writes. He has such a lovely way to say things. You can almost see the things he is talking about. I loved the way the stories intertwine and kept a notebook near by to scribble names down. It's a kind of a puzzle and I was even more surprised when somebody from newer books appeared. Wow, almost a week without visiting my own thread. That's exceptional, but RL got in the way, as it sometimes does.

The book by Peter James was not as good as I hoped. I normally love his books, but this was just one big boring thing. Especially the chapter were Bryce (the bad guy) and Red (the victim) telling their part of the story. The other chapters where Roy Grace is the POV were much better and up to the standard I am used to when reading a Peter James book. ***

Thanks, Birgit! I'm doing fine. The waether is so nice now. I'm outside reading all the time. I just came in and thought to visit LT for a short while. Just getting my top posts up to date. Because I'm hopelessly behind.

I try to sit outside and read as much as I can. However, the temp is about 90 and the humidity is the same...it's like a sauna, not to mention the biting/stinging bugs when it's like this.
