I really liked how amysisson set up her anthology tracker, so I'm shamelessly R&Ding (ripping off and duplicating) her format.

I have lots of books tagged as anthologies (249 at the moment) and quite a few that are TBR. I used to read short stories all the time and for some reason I have gotten out of the habit, so I think setting up a thread to keep track will help me focus a bit.

When I finish the whole book, I'll take credit over in the current category challenge thread.

Anthology list to be maintained here, alphabetical by title:

The Arabian Nights Entertainments (The Easton Press) by Anonymous

There were two 5-star reads for me here - All of the People in Your Party Have Died, about a teacher and her relationship with the computer lab teacher and her obsession with the game on school computers that all the kids play, and Select Character, about a stay-at-home mom who starts playing her husband's favorite war game at home secretly, and goes about playing it in completely different way.

Open Secrets by Alice Munro

Carried Away
A Real Life
The Albanian Virgin
Open Secrets
The Jack Randa Hotel
A Wilderness Station
Spaceships Have Landed
Vandals

My favorite story was The Albanian Virgin, two stories in one actually, one about a woman kidnapped in Albania and forced to live amongst a tribe, and the other about a woman running a bookstore - a woman she knows tells her the kidnap story from her hospital bed.

Counterfeit Unrealities by Philip K. Dick

The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ubik
A Scanner Darkly

My favorite was Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Blade Runner was based on this story; I loved Blade Runner and of course no movie can ever really include everything in a book, even a 162-page novella like this one. Well done.

Just After Sunset by Stephen King

Willa
The Gingerbread Girl
Harvey's Dream
Rest Stop
Stationary Bike
The Things They Left Behind
Graduation Afternoon
N.
The Cat From Hell
The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates
Mute
Alyana
A Very Tight Place

My favorites were:
The Gingerbread Girl - about a runner where running got her in trouble and swimming ended up saving her.
The Things They Left Behind - a poignant tale in remembrance of 9/11.
N. - don't read this letter!

The Mousetrap (formerly titled Three Blind Mice and Other Stories) by Agatha Christie

Three Blind Mice
Strange Jest
Tape-Measure Murder
The Case of the Perfect Maid
The Case of the Caretaker
The Third-Floor Flat
The Adventure of Johnnie Waverly
Four and Twenty Blackbirds
The Love Detectives

These short stories were just OK. I haven't read any Agatha Christie in a long time and maybe the short story is not her best length.

Close Range: Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx

The Half-Skinned Steer
The Mud Below
Job History
The Blood Bay
People in Hell Just Want a Drink of Water
The Bunchgrass Edge of the World
Pair a Spurs
A Lonely Coast
The Governors of Wyoming
55 Mile to the Gas Pump
Brokeback Mountain

Annie Proulx is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and these were well written stories. I felt like I was in Wyoming, hearing the voices of the characters in these stories. That being said, I didn't enjoy very many of them - some of them really disturbed me in fact - resulting in ratings from 2.5 to 3.5 stars, with an average of 3 stars.

Flashing Swords! #5: Demons and Daggers edited by Lin Carter

Tower of Ice by Roger Zelazny
A Thief in Korianth by C. J. Cherryh
Parting Gifts by Diane Duane
A Dealing with Demons by Craig Shaw Gardner
The Dry Season by Tanith Lee

Five short stories that fit in the 'swords and sorcery' sub-genre. Two excellent, two good and one OK. My favorites were Parting Gifts, a story about a Rodmistress (a type of witch) called by the Goddess to fight once last fight against the Shadow and The Dry Season, about the occupation of a town, and a new commander arrives just five days before a sacrifice will be made.

Four Past Midnight by Stephen King

The Langoliers
Secret Window, Secret Garden
The Library Policeman
The Sun Dog

Four novellas, all very good. The Langoliers is about a flight where strange things happen after a handful of folks wake up after take-off - it was my favorite. Secret Window, Secret Garden is about a writer who's just gone through a painful divorce, is having writer's block and is suddenly accused of plagiarism. The Library Policeman is about a small town insurance salesman who is asked to give a speech at the next club meeting and everything goes downhill from there. And the Sun Dog is about a birthday present that turns out to be pretty awful.

The Colour Out of Space
The Outsider
Imprisoned with the Pharaohs
The Transition of Juan Romero
In the Walls of the Eryx
The Festival
The Shadow Over Innsmouth

My first Lovecraft collection, I really enjoyed this. It had science fiction, a story ghost-written for Harry Houdini and a story reminiscent of Poe. Three five-star stories for me - my favorite was the The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

The Devastating Boys by Elizabeth Taylor

The Devastating Boys
The Excursion to the Source
Tall Boy
Praises
In and Out the Houses
Flesh
Sisters
Hotel du Commerce
Miss A. and Miss M.
The Fly-Paper
Crepes Flambees

I finished The Devastating Boys last night. Overall, I give it 4 stars - my favorites were Flesh, about two people at a seaside resort who decide to have a fling, and Sisters, about a widow who gets a visit from an author asking about her sister. I enjoyed my time with Elizabeth Taylor in this collection.
