GN: I've relaunched our GN/BN thread!
BN: Traffic in our group has slowed over the past couple of years, and I miss everyone!
GN: There's a new Harry Potter book coming this summer, which is the script of the new play! Yay!
BN: Once again, we are waiting for a new Harry Potter...
BN: I broke my ankle on Saturday while hiking.
VBN: I was training to do a single day, 28.3 mile charity hike for Make-A-Wish Foundation (you can read more at http://bit.ly/mollyhikes).
GN: I'm not completely out of it yet, just sidelined for a few weeks.

Be careful on that ankle grk. I have too many friends who got impatient and overused a broken leg or ankle too soon. Maybe you can get someone to do the hike in your name?
GN: February will be over soon. Good riddance. It's been a difficult one.

BN: Sounds like February's been kinda crummy all-around.
GN: We can support each other, here!
BN: Depression bites.
GN: I have support.
BN: While my support is awesome, they have to see me be all gloomy. One person is new, and I don't know how to explain, "It sucks now, but this too shall pass. Please be patient."

I think that explains it perfectly Rozax. I'm glad you are getting support. And here's to a good March!
5grkmwk
>2 jugglingpaynes: Don't worry, I won't push myself! I am planning to be my team's chief cheerleader at each aid station on hike day, but I won't actually hike. There's just no way I'd be ready to do it. I am walk about 1/2 out on the trail at some point during the day, just so I can say I did hike a (very small) part of it, although even that may be optimistic.
>3 justjukka: Yes, depression does bite; I'm so sorry. I'm glad you have support.
GN: It's March! Here's to a new month, and a clean, fresh start.
GN: It's 70 degrees and sunny here. Although I can't get out to enjoy it, I do have the door open and am enjoying the breeze and birdsong through the screen door.
BN: My TBR list is growing at a frightening rate, given I have plenty of time to browse books. ;)

GN: I had a positive post-op report last Friday, and I've been back at work since Monday! I'm exhausted from getting back in the swing of things - and from wheeling myself around my very large library! - but it's been good to be back.
BN: Still no walking until April 8, at the earliest. But I'm healing well, so I'm grateful.

Yay grk! I have another friend who badly broke his ankle at the beginning of the year (he fell off a hoverboard) and spent about 8 weeks on a knee scooter. It's been interesting seeing both your accessibility posts on Facebook. I have one of the "invisible" disabilities and I've gotten really into accessibility issues. I hope that you'll continue to notice issues even after you're out of the chair!
8grkmwk
I plan to, bib. On some level, I knew that we are a world planned for fully-abled people, but I did not realize just how egregiously dismissive we are. And even areas where attempts are made to be accessibility-friendly, those attempts often fall short.
9jugglingpaynes
8: Specifically, we are a world planned for fully-abled right-handed people. Just saying. :o)
10grkmwk
>9 jugglingpaynes: Yes! Being a righty, I forget that second aspect. :o/
11jugglingpaynes
Ever feel like you wrote something that killed a thread? :oP
12grkmwk
>11 jugglingpaynes: - Haha, yep! My absence, though, is due to work being a bit crazy. 'Tis April!
GN: I am walking again! It is slow, and I'm limping, but I am walking!!! Started PT yesterday, which should help the recovery process.

GN: The Hugo nominations were released yesterday!
BN: In some ways it's worse than last year's.
GN: In other ways it's better.
JN: I'm not sure if I'm going to vote this year. I may take a year off and come back next year when the slating issue should be fixed.

>13 biblioholic29:: It seems like they keep having problems with the nominations on that award.
15justjukka
I've been dealing with more bad news than good, lately. March was rough and depression still has a firm hold on me. I had an idea for a full story, which I've outlined, but I went and took a chance on something despite my better judgement, which squandered my creative drive. I still have musical outlets to keep me going, at least. My husband is very supportive, but he works long hours, so that's difficult. I don't expect everything to be like this forever. The here and now is just a real drag, and I feel like a little storm cloud.
16justjukka
GOOD NEWS! I am not a lost cause in the musical instrument department. A couple of the professionals in my community band are impressed by my skill, given the length of time in which I've been playing. I blush.
17foggidawn
GN: I found this thread!
BN: It took me three months to do so.
I was just thinking how much I miss our old camaraderie, from back in the days when this was one of the busiest groups on LibraryThing. I still visit LT pretty much every day, but I tend to only catch talk topics that I've previously posted on. I keep a thread going over in the 75-Book Challenge group ( http://www.librarything.com/topic/220672 ) , so you can find me there if you'd like, but I'm going to make more of an effort to keep up with this group. In fact...
*twirls the thread resurrection stone in her hand and grins mischievously*

Scary News: I'm in escrow on a condo, which is why I'm not buying new books right now. I've got inspection in 2 days and closing is scheduled for July, so I have a bit of a wait. (My current lease is up at the end of July.)

Good luck!
I know it has been a while since I have posted on HE on LT when I keep looking for the Like button! I do check most everyday to see if anyone is around.

How wonderful Bib! Deep breaths, I know this can be a harrowing process.
25foggidawn
GN: This little spate of posting has put us back on the charts -- or at least, back midway up the list of the most active groups on LT.
27biblioholic29
Thanks all!
GN: The inspection went well today - I can't imagine any of what he found derailing the sale.

Hello, all! Congrats on the condo purchase, Bib; I know it's scary and thrilling at the same time. But you'll be so happy in your own place with books!
GN: Life is basically good. Beat cancer last year, so most everything is positive in that light.
BN: Hate my job and need a new, better-paying one. Or, to be honest, like the job okay but don't like my boss AT ALL and need to escape his mind games.
GN: Might hear about a job I applied for recently as soon as this coming week. It's close to home, it pays better, and it's at a 2-year college. I think I'd like that environment.

Happy to hear everyone's good news!
GN: I broke my ankle back in February and had surgery, which sidelined me for most of the winter/early spring. But PT is paying off, and I'm already back up to 65% strength! Hope to be back hiking again soon...
GreatN: There's a new HP book *and* movie coming out this year!!!!!!! Just found out that the local book festival I volunteer for is planning a book release party: I AM SO THERE. :o)

I am so afraid to get excited about the new "book." Is it just the script for the play or is it a novelization of the play?
I am also worried about the movie, but feel better after seeing the trailers. I just hope it is not a bunch of running around chasing and being chased by monsters.

32grkmwk
Yep, pretty sure it's the script. But as a former theatre nerd, I won't mind!
As for the movie (and the book), I'm trying to keep my expectations low, to mitigate possible disappointment. We'll see how successful I am...

GN: I have moved into my new condo, and it's mostly awesome!
BN: Still a lot of unpacking to do, including all my books, so it doesn't feel like home yet.
GN: I know it will.
BN: I remain internetless because Comcast.
GN: The most recent person I spoke to about it was amazing and got my package switched to a cheaper, better one just for all the trouble I'd been through!
BN: There's a problem with my water heater. I took a luke warm shower this morning.
GN: It was luke warm, so hopefully that means I just need to figure out how to raise the temperature and it's not broken. *fingers crossed*

Not good or bad, but did anyone else's LT Home Page change? "Talk" wasn't at the top of mine and I panicked!
38biblioholic29
Is this the first time it's ever done that to you? I swear every few months I sign on and they've reset my home page to the default and I have to set it all back up the way I like it again.
39compskibook
First time. Weird!
40biblioholic29
My Illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is here! They're so pretty.
41grkmwk
>40 biblioholic29: I'm getting mine next week! Can't wait!!
42foggidawn
GN: As some of you already know, I've accepted a job offer in another town. The job is collection development for children and teen materials, so basically my dream job. I start next week!
GN: I found an adorable house to rent, with a big front porch and nice interior woodwork.
BN: Packing. Ugh.

Good News: The head of our children's library told me she wants me to be in charge of buying graphic novels for the children's room in 2017. She'll show me how to do the purchases and I will have a budget to work with.
This is only just sinking in.
I'm excited but scared. It's a big responsibility. How will I make the right choices? What if I buy stuff that no one wants to read? What's even popular with kids now? I started trying to think about what comics I've noticed going out, but I'm not sure. *panics, hyperventilates, falls over*

Stop. Take a breath. You got this. Here are the graphic novel series that are popular with my students:
Babymouse; Lunch Lady; Bone; Rapunzel's Revenge; Cleopatra in Space; Lowriders in Space; Missal Mouse; Babysitters Club; Smile; Drama, Sisters
Interestingly, they all cross the genders. My boys are as likely to check out Babysitter Club as the girls, and the girls like the Bone books. As long as they are graphic novels, they will check out.
Have fun ordering!

49jugglingpaynes
Thanks exlib and foggi! Exlib, we actually have almost all of those in our collection! The only ones I don't recognize are Lowriders in Space and Missal Mouse. I will have to look them up. Right now I'm weeding our collection. I have until December to finish that. It's the hardest part of the job. I always feel bad for the books that haven't circulated for a while.

A lot of you are friends with me on Facebook and already know this so sorry for being redundant!
BN: I injured my back on Saturday morning while doing laundry.
GN: I've had the injury before and did some exercises.
BN: It didn't work this time and I reached a point Saturday evening where I couldn't move without intense pain.
GN: My parents are back in the area, so my dad came over to take me to the hospital.
BN: He couldn't get me up either, so we had to call an ambulance. The big elevator in my building was out of order so they had to bring a chair up for me instead of a stretcher. I almost passed out from the pain.
GN: The EMT convinced someone at the hospital that I shouldn't be in a chair and I was moved from the stretcher to a gurney in the hall.
BN: Right after the EMTs left, they brought a chair to move me to a room. It took 2 nurses to get me in the chair, but when I got to the room, my dad and I were left to try to get me on the bed. I made an attempt and reached a 10 on the pain scale. I was cursing at the top of my lungs between screaming for help.
GN: Someone came and helped me into bed.
BN: I couldn't get comfortable and the pain continued. The had to push 2 rounds of pain meds, anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxers before I could roll from my side to my back. I was never able to stand.
GN: They arranged for me to be admitted.
BN: There wasn't a bed immediately available and I was stuck in the ER all night trying to sleep.
GN: When I finally got a room, I had it to myself.
BN: I wasn't able to get out of bed at all until Monday night.
GN: I was finally released from the hospital around 4 PM on Tuesday. I have a walker and my parents are taking turns staying with me because I still can't sit for long periods of time and I can't sit up from a supine position on my own.
GN: I have a follow up appointment at my doctor's today and an evaluation at the Physical Therapists, we'll see how that goes.
BN: This is a crazy time at work and I can't be there. Also, I'm supposed to be hosting Thanksgiving next week.
GN: My family is awesome and will pitch in as needed.

GN: I got a real callback for a job I've applied to. It's a writing position, and they've given me a week to work on an assessment. It's too good to be true, and I'm kinda worried that I'll mess it up before I've even begun. ^^;
