Movies I Never Want to Lose Track of

In other words, these are some of the special movies to me which I want to own so I can view them whenever I like. Not all are from books, although some are. I'll add to this thread here and there because I don't have time to add them all now. Please add your own special favorites as well. These are not all the movies I own, but really those which were not blockbusters, but somehow moved me in a way that I can watch them again and again. Some were blockbusters as well.

"The Fall" 2006 with Lee Pace is one we watched again last night. I am going to buy this because I feel one could watch it and see something new with every viewing. Visually rich, historical as well as emotional and moving. Exploring despair and other subjects without ever saying so. I love it.

Good topic MrsLee.

I've got several films on VHS which seem to never have been issued on DVD. And I'm glad that I still have a working player.

One is The Boys Next Door, a 1996 TV movie starring Nathan Lane. It's about four mentally challenged young men who live in a supervised household and their social worker. Do not mistake this for the violent Charlie Sheen film with the same title. I've seen this as a play too; it's by Tom Griffin.

Another is Where the Heart Is, starring Dabney Coleman. His adult children and their friends take over an old mansion their developer father is planning on demolishing. They are all artists of some sort, and what they do with the space is phenomenal. Very dreamy.

"Local Hero" 1983 with Burt Lancaster, is another favorite of mine. I spent more money for that one than I have for any movie ever. About a young and ambitious businessman who gets becalmed in a tiny town in Scotland and learns some valuable life lessons.

Of course, "The Princess Bride" which can never be watched too many times. The book did not resonate with me so much as it seems to have with others. Not sure whether the movie spoiled that or not.

One which I love because of the subdued heroism of the father is "Nick of Time" 1995 with Johnny Depp. Not his usual role, except the hero part.

One of my friends transferred "La Pastorela" an episode from Great Performances December of 1991, to DVD for me. Linda Ronstadt, Paul Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Freddie Fender and others did a wonderful job of capturing the essence and unique celebration of the season. It is so off the wall I love it. My kids loved it too, although I will never forget my six year old at the time insisting on watching it, but needing to hide under the table with a blanket over his head the whole time. :)

I made some more purchases.

*Batteries Not Included - One of the most adorable movies I've ever seen

Mr. Nice Guy
Forbidden Kingdom
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Hero
Because sometimes I feel like watching the beauty and fantasy of martial arts films, and sometimes I like to laugh. I may buy one or two more of the silly Jackie Chan movies.

Totally agree on Batteries not Included. I don't watch movies often, but other special ones for me are:

Labyrinth
The Neverending Story
Driving Miss Daisy
Bulletproof Monk
The Net
Short Circuit
Quigley Down Under
Lord of the Rings series, both sets: (1) The Hobbit for TV, the live-animation LOTR movie from the 70s, and The Return of the King for TV, and (2) the LOTR trilogy from the early 2000s

I don't recall what made me remember this little movie recently, but I ordered it and watched it again. I like it even better the second time around.

>3 MrsLee: By the by, I've watched Local Hero twice now as well. This year after watching You've Been Trumped.

Sadly, real life is not as good as fiction in this case.

A Knight's Tale with Heath Leger, just cause it's a fun movie. Don't care about the historical accuracy for something that's a farce like this. :)

Down Periscope with Kelsey Grammar, again because it's fun and a farce.

Naturally, the Harry Potter full series...

Independence Day with Will Smith, cause it's become a yearly tradition to watch the cheesefest. :)

Pitch Perfect with Anna Kendrick

I, Robot with Will Smith. I'm told I'm weird to like it. *shrug*

I'm sure I'll remember more eventually.

The Match, a 1999 film starring Max Beesley and produced by Pierce Brosnan, who also cameos.

I have no idea why this film is lost. I'm the only lister on LT. It's a great story.

In the Scottish village of Inverdoune, teams representing the village's two pubs—Benny's Bar and Le Bistro—have played an annual football game for 99 consecutive years. Under the terms of the original bet, the loser of the 100th match must forfeit their bar to the winner. Facing its 100th consecutive loss, Benny's Bar looks set to be bulldozed and replaced with a car park by the odious owner of Le Bistro, "Gorgeous" George Gus.

The Boys Next Door was produced by Hallmark Hall of Fame for TV. It's based on a play by Tom Griffin, and there are multiple copies of that, but again, I'm the only one with the film. (VHS) (Nope, was able to find one other.)

It stars Nathan Lane as a developmentally disabled adult who lives in a group home.

Oh! The whole thing is available on YouTube:

Highly recommended.

Dabney Coleman starred in the obscure 1990 film Where the Heart Is. Dabney is a wealthy father of three young adult children who seem spoiled. He tosses them out, allowing them to move in to a decrepit, but historic, old building. They take in roommates and wild creativity is unleashed. The story moves into a lovely, dreamy surrealism. Other cast members include Uma Thurman, Crispin Glover and Suzy Amis and Christopher Plummer.

MGMs 1939 The Women is all about heterosexual love, and the men are frequently referenced, spoken to on the phone and discussed; but are never on screen. It's a stunningly fun romp.

>15 CurioCollective: Hi and welcome to LT. You can create touchstones to works by using square brackets around the title, thus

Somewhere in Time

It makes it very easy to get to the work referenced.
