Reading a newspaper is a nightmare for me. Talk about jumping around on a page. I think ebook reading is like any skill, you have to learn how to read that format.

Nothing in that short piece indicating the medium is at fault. Rather, our habits / practices differ between media, whether electronic or analog. But I wonder if eventually, the difference between an eBook and the internet will become the same as between a paper Book and the internet. At present, the eBook is perhaps more like the internet, but I suspect that's more to do with distractions built into the eReader, not the visual medium itself.
The bigger argument about deep / linear reading is persuasive. I'm also reminded that narrative prose from 100 years ago tends to have far, far more dependent clauses and drawn-out description, than does 20th century prose and later. So that's been happening even on paper / codex / scroll ....
