I was really surprised when I was so moved by my brain snack, generic YA novel... but I was!
It's called Becoming Chloe by Catherine Ryan Hyde. Quick summary:
Boy is kicked out of his house because he's gay. He rescues a girl from being raped. She's got some sort of mental disorder. She's not crazy, she just acts like a little kid. They're living in the city, homeless, witnessing crimes and poverty and all this bad stuff. Chloe becomes depressed because she thinks the world is ugly, but the boy (his name slipped my mind now) vows to prove her wrong. They road trip across the country in search of all things beautiful, sounds cheesy, I know. But there are some bits of dialogue that are so inspiring. It's definitely a stand out for me.
