I am about half way through our DVD collection and have noticed on thing in particular--ready for this?-- there doesn't seem to be more then one 'member' that owns most of our titles. martin luther heretic Herod's TempleDo you think this is because:
A) audio and video cataloging is recent addition to LT?
B) other churches don't have similar media?
C other churches aren't using this particular feature? or
D) something else entirely?

I have about a dozen items that I will need to 'self-enter' and that makes me nervous-I don't have a Library degree, only 10 years working as a public library clerk

>1 saintjamesluther: Just do what you think is right. You can edit most everything later. And if you've done something that can't be edited, you can always delete the item from your collection and start over with that item. I've done that many many times and survived! :-) Hundreds of our items have to be entered manually.

"Hundreds of our items have to be entered manually." So I am discovering. Plus the fact that the average year of publication for our library (so far--513 items) is 1993! I have probably 12 unique books--we seem to be the only one with a copy. But at least with a book there will usually be something to link with. DVDs & audio, not so much

Well, I figure I'm at least helping out anyone that comes behind me...

>5 saintjamesluther: Plus, you're letting the world know you have a particular item. That may well be very special if anyone is needing access/information about it, or maybe even wants to visit it. Our library discovered a particularly expensive scholarly book we wanted but couldn't afford is in a collection only 800km from here. So if someone really wants to see it, they know where to go.

I am finally nearing the end of adding books to LT. I have handled/expected/entered 1500+ items, mostly books. The average year of publication 1985! So far we have about 200 'particular items'
Once I am done I will sit down the pastors and make some recommendations...

>7 saintjamesluther: BTW A lot of your singletons can be combined. I did a few just now, but I have to get up and off to my Hebrew class. I'll try to remember to get back to it later.

Send me a profile message with an example, and I'll walk you through it. But tomorrow. It's 23:00 here.

>7 saintjamesluther: I'm impressed! You have been very diligent and productive. Congratulations.

>8 MarthaJeanne: Can you please point me towards something that explains what you're talking about? It looks sort of like something I might have been asking about but didn't have the knowledge or vocabulary to ask for properly. I mean a set of items that makes up a single box; for example, 6 books that are individually catalogued, but make up a complete study set.

>11 VicRML: The 6 books should be in separate works, if possible combined with appropriate volumes of other members. You can then go to Common Knowledge (CK) to turn the books into a series or publishers series. If all the books have always belonged together, it should be a series. If the books have been brought together by the publisher, but have independant history, they should be a publisher series.

Ah! Found one! I have started https://www.librarything.com/series/Christian%20discipline%20in%20the%20Religiou.... You can find any other volumes that belong in the series. I recommend using cut and paste for the series name, as it needs to be accurate. the series number belongs in (). Note that if you need to, you can also use decimals. (0.5) for p prequel; (3.5) for special supplement to the third issue ...

I have done some separations and recombining to get the editions into the right works. If you see wrong combinations in there now, please let me know.

>12 MarthaJeanne: Hmmm. I hadn't considered Christian Discipline/Faith and Practice as a series, but I guess it could be.

I have in mind the Quaker Quest series, our AYM "Quaker Basics" course (which includes several PHPs and a few other small books) and the Kindlers pamphlets. Although the third one isn't necessarily a study set, it could be shelved in a box.

Quaker Basics materials are definitely not a series, but having sets of items already to check out as a single box would help people wanting them.
