Hello, everyone. This is a new venture for me as I tend to enjoy picking my books randomly, depending on my current mood or interests, but I am going to give the Woman Author Bingo a casual try. I admire those of you who make reading lists and stick with them, but that's just not for me. However, I'll be interested in seeing what is on your lists!

Well, I did something right, but that's not the right card. Will need to go back later and find the right code.

All fixed now!

The Woman BingoPUP cards are at
http://www.librarything.com/topic/201420#5340675

As you can see, there are 2 of them; both have the same categories but in different orders.

I'm one who can't commit to books in the future as well. I'm much more of an impulse reader. I participated in CATs this past year which focused my choice but it was still spur-of-the-moment choices that ended up being read.
I think you'll find many of us are the same way so you are in good company.
Welcome and best of luck with your Bingo card.

Good luck! Should be fun to see what we all end up reading for this card.

I'm with you Cariola, don't want to be tied down to reading a list! (I made a small 10 book one). Happy reading!

I have tried for the last few years to do challenge lists, and always fail miserably. But I decided to do the BingoPUP for 2016, too. I just checked the books I read in 2015 against the card and I had 15 squares, so this bodes well for 2016. I hope.

It's fun seeing you here! I read impulsively, but I also like lists, so what's better than making lists and then reading other books?

>11 RidgewayGirl: LOL! My life story....making lists and then doing exactly what I want...whether or not it's on the list...

Welcome to the challenge! I read impulsively as well, but managed to make room for that in my challenge by chosing categories that I am likely to read anyway and then just adding some that are a bit more challenging. Enjoy your reading!

I made my categories pretty vague to support my impulse reading this year.

OK, now that I've finished my first book of 2016, I need to figure out how to daub the squares!

19Cariola

First square of the year. Boy, did this character have a non-traditional role! Cross-dressed as a sailor on a 17th century merchant ship.

Autobiography, memoir, or correspondence. (Fictionalized memoir, narrated by Cassandra Austen, relying heavily on actual letters between the sisters.)

About a Female Ruler

Not exactly about Queen Elizabeth, but about the painters struggling to get commissions to paint her; there's no story without her, so I would say she is central, and she does appear in several episodes.

About a spy. Not a typical spy story, but the main character does a little incognito work of her own while trying to uncover Tory spies during the American Revolution.

Different Genre by Same Author. I have read several novels by Tracy Chevalier, but never a short story, and never an anthology she has edited. The stories here could have fit several of the remaining categories (set in Africa, male pseudonym, set in South America, etc.).

41Cariola
Modificato: Mag 15, 2016, 3:11 pm

I'm taking this one as Women in Combat: the main female character follows the man she loves into the heart of the Crimean War. This one could also have gone into the Award Winner or Published before 2000 categories.

I noticed that a few other members tweaking categories, and that is what I'm doing here. I'm claiming this one as Detective Fiction, even though it isn't set in the 1920s-30s, mainly because I do not and probably never will read that genre. I didn't especially care for Jane Steele, which is loosely based on touch points in Jane Eyre. It seemed to me more of a crime/mystery novel--hence the category square I'm taking for it.

That makes two bingos, but most of the remaining categories will be harder for me.

Reading one about a critter, but unfortunately it's a male critter. :( Maybe he will meet a she and I can count the square.

Male Pseudonym. I'm fudging a bit on this one, because I think the author's parents just gave her a male first name instead of her choosing to use a male pseudonym. But I don't see myself reading any George Eliot or Georges Sand this year.

Edited to add: I looked it up. Curtis is her middle name; her first name is Elizabeth. I still don't know if she has always gone by Curtis or if she decided to use the male name for publication. I wouldn't think she'd need to do that in the 21st century.

About a Female Critter. Maybe a little cheating on this one as it is more of a coffee table book, and at least half of the critters/cats are male. But it's the best that I can do in this category.

I'll be finishing a book by an African woman in the next few days. So near and yet so far! I'm tempted to count Barkskins for Woman in Science, even if it is a stretch. There's a female ecologist/botanist in the last section. That leaves just one category: African-American. I must have something on my shelves.
