The Shepherd's Crown

I just got my copy of this final Discworld novel. It's been impossible not to come across the broad outlines of the story, but I finally get to read it for myself. It's very bittersweet, knowing this will be the last time I open a new Discworld book.

I've managed to avoid even the broad outline, apart from it having Tiffany in it.

still have to order it, thought I preorderd it from PJSM but something must've gone wrong.

Yep, I have mine, but I'm reading through the Tiffany Aching books again to refresh my memory before reading it. Also to prolong the bittersweet moment when I have finished it.

A short, but very moving book. It's brevity is explained in the Afterword, and it is obvious throughout that Terry Pratchett would have expanded and fleshed this one out more if there had been time. No spoilers, but the themes of loss and change were particularly poignant in this last Discworld novel. I could clearly discern Terry's voice in this one, in the way you could in the Discworld at its height, and which has been diminished in more recent entries. The Discworld cycle had to end one day; I'm glad it was on a book of this quality.

No spoilers about content but I spent one early chapter bawling out loud. And I was all alone in a cabin by myself. But I just couldn't help it.

Ah, I've finished now. I also had avoided any spoilers, and I'm glad I did. It was a perfect last novel if there had to be one. I'm glad I read the others again.
