Does anyone know of a US store than retails for Persephone? $23 for a paperback is getting painful. and I'm spoiled, as I'm skeptical that secondhand books will come with the bookmark.

I checked a couple of likely stores, and found that it pretty much depends on the title. Both Women & Children First and Seminary Co-op have some titles. But since these stores are not near you, it might not be much of a savings when you consider shipping costs.
Your best bet may actually be, not a US store, but Book Depository in the UK. While most are in the area of $23, they do have some for less, and they ship free to the US.
And check Indiebound (though, sadly, you cannot search by publisher).

I have bought from a number of sources - including Book Depository and Amazon Market Place. Many second hand ones do not come with book marks and I have had to buy them separately from Persephone itself. When buying second hand I always check that 'Like New' means like new and about 25% of the time the seller cancels the order because the book is not as described. A few years ago a gently read Persephone sold for as little as $2.50 on Amazon but, alas, no longer.
As anyone who is also on the LT Virago group knows I have had horrible luck with Book Depository since they opened their American branch. When the books came from the UK they were great but 4 of the ones from their NY state warehouse have arrived in horrible condition and were only replaced after a lot of fuss. The last one I got looked as if someone had dropped an anvil on it. Plus new Persephones from BD do not come with book marks.

Here's a nice article (though horrid headline!) about Persephone with a little about their 'stateside' venture.
