Need help finding a few sci-fi novels--1980s/early 90s publication dates

Greetings all,
Trying to track down a few books (or perhaps even the same book?) I read as a kid. These are the details that I remember.
Book 1:
-protagonist was named Scott
-he was an adolescent who may have been extraterrestrial
-he moved his (and his uncle's?) spaceship through telekinesis of some kind, which also somehow involved the use of an emerald ring; I distinctly remember the phrase "Scott squeezed the ring"
Book 2:
-involved a group of children/teens trying to stop the antagonist from charging balls of some kind with Y-rays from a distant star
-while being pursued by the antagonist, the children (who possess one of the balls) gain the power of telekinesis and use the power to stay one step ahead, at one point visit a crystal shop
-at some point they use the crystal to create a distraction by mimicking "the wind of Babu"
I was in middle school (1996-1999) when I read this/these novels, so I assume a publication date of the late 1980s.
Does any of this sound familiar?

No luck at all on the first one, found a lot on Google re: the ring of telekinesis in Dungeons & Dragons and also Green Lantern kept coming up. Don't think either of those are what you are looking for though!
