I have just finished Caesar life of a colossus and something he said about the Pilum that it was a myth that they were intended to bend on impact. Well is he right? has my whole life been a lie? I seem to recall that Caesar himself comments on the Pilum is The Gallic Wars. Help me tell truth from fiction

Did the author include a footnote as to where he got this information? That is the first place I would start.

From a quick internet search it sounds like the claim is that the point was made of softer/thinner metal -- if so, there should be archaeological finds and chances are someone has built reconstructions to test the thesis.

You might check the Roman Army Talk forums -- it's full of both Roman military history enthusiasts and reenactors, so someone is bound to have experience.

It seems to me it's also likely that the construction of the pilum changed over time so it may depend on what period you're talking about.
