DLE History of the Holy Graal Arrived...PICS!!!

This is a smaller book...but the quality is tops. The hand-marbled end-papers are stunning and even have silver and gold metallic highlights (these are nice thick papers where you can feel the texture of the colors...yet still smooth to the touch, i.e. the metallic is not a glitter or anything cheesy). The printing and illustrations look great..simple. The cover is fully embossed and the leather is the premium smooth imported type. Some new suppliers listed on the info page. Sorry for the less than perfect iPhone Pics.

So pretty... why did you show me that? With the hand-marbled endpages...grrr... must resist temptation...

This might be one of my favorites.

What color is the leather? The pictures here appear white but the pictures on EP's website look light blue.

>2 astropi:: What s/he said. Damn! If only I had limitless funds for such as this!

Looks much nicer than it does on EPs website!

Damn, I was resisting this one, but I am quickly cracking.

The cover is blue...just like in the photo. However, the EP Website photo shows the leather as grainy...its a smooth soft leather...and the cover boards are thick.

Beautiful. I might have to reconsider this one. I was a bit put off, because it looked like EP redrew the illustration on the front board
and the pictorial covers were the main reason I wanted the book. But those pictures you just posted definitely re-tempting me...

This is the original, by the way:

The original spine is so much nicer than the EP one. EP just can't help themselves over-embellishing. Overall a nice volume, but a tiny bit of restraint on that spine would have made it much better.

12: I think the spine is actually quite cool. Of course I haven't seen it in person... I'm still starstruck by the hand-marbled endsheets...

I may be in the minority but I just can't sell myself of the light color of blue that they are using on this.

I love the attention to detail and it appears from the reviews that the craftsmanship is where it needs to be but...

Yeah this marbling is IMO better than anything Folio or EP has done to date. It is opulent and reflective. The blue binding color is something I like...if not because its different from your typical creams or browns. It works with the dark blue (or black) embossing with foiled accents. The leather is smooth and thick.

The quality is wonderful. I didn't know whether I would like the blue binding, but I do. All in all, it's a beautiful, high quality book worth buying.

Oh, my - the Sang Real is quite tempting! If only my bank account agreed :-/

I think I like Pulp's printing better than Falcon Press. Pulp's relationship with EP must be fairly new. And why randomly do they use a different vendor for the slipcases when Kingsport Book also makes slipcases and is binding the book?

>18 cu29640:

Price, probably. It is not uncommon for slipcases to be produced by a different company. Happens all the time with other publishers (and sometimes causes a few issues getting the fit right).

It looks beautiful. I was on the fence with this one but now I have crumbled......

The title page indicates the translator ("from the Old French"), but who is the original author?

Those illustrations are amazing, they remind me of Aubrey Beardsley.

24: Yes indeed! I love Beardsley. His Salome illustrations are canonical bar none.

>25 astropi:: Ditto. As a child I was a bit creeped out by "The Peacock Dress", which I think is among the drawings for Salome, but as I got older I began to appreciate Beardsley's weird but compelling style. As for this "Graal", it's now on my "must have" list!!

Giu 20, 2021, 10:55 am

Yes, but only if the pictures are uploaded to the phot gallery of one’s LT profile and the link is copied over here in the post along with the correct format of the img html tag.

I'm sorry to be so ignorant but that means nothing to me.

>29 ironjaw: I think Frank was asking about the photos in the first post, which all appear to be broken links now (probably expired by photobucket since they were posted 6 years ago). (He can correct me if I am misunderstanding.)

>30 Frank_Zwolinski: the only way to see those old photos would be if the original poster reuploads them somewhere else and links to the reuploaded photos. So no, probably not (in this case).

I will try and figure out how to share more pics in the next day or so.
