We all knew this day was coming, and I respect his desire to not wait until he lost who he was before leaving; however, it's still a day of profound sadness for me. I don't know about you but I want to always think of Sir Terry Pratchett riding throughout the universe on the back of a giant tortoise.

I just read about this... always so sudden. It's very sad to see him go but he's been absolutely inspirational to all of us as a writer and human being. A wonderful person who we all were so lucky to have share his stories with the world.

"Now what...?" feeling still lingers in my soul though. :0

This is a sad day for literature and humanism. But at least, he died at home surrounded by his family, and didn't have to trek all the way to Switzerland.

Tonight, we're having Rincewind's potato cakes, sausages inna bun and spicey spotted dick from Nanny Ogg's Cookbook (with added greens) to celebrate his life and work.

The world got just a little bit more sensible today - that's not a good thing.
Series re-read might just be in order.

Although I am sad, it is mitigated by the fact that I am so thankful for his body of work which I can dip into and read whenever I need to be reminded of the real stuff life is made of.

Dear Group,

I well remember buying the first DiscWold novel (when it first came out) and being underwhelmed. A couple of years later number 2 came out. Sir T was not well known at all...
Then by chance I bought the first of the witches (#3) and I became an instant convert. When the Watch series started I was an acolyte!
Not everything Terry wrote was great (but unlike some, I do think his later works like "Steam" and "Snuff" are better than his earlier works.) More mannered, more thought out.

I can hear a mature Terry in those works.

Of course I will miss Pterry and guess I'll try and get the Diaries/Callenders/etc. that I have not yet collected.

I would though have liked "just one more story" by him :-)

Guido.

Like all of his fans, I'm very saddened by Sir Terry's death. Thirty years of anticipating the next Discworld book, and the fun and joy in each one. I'm very grateful for his body of work, but can't help feeling sorrow that Vimes, Granny Weatherwax, Rincewind, Susan, Nanny Ogg, et al. will have no new stories, at least in PTerry's voice, and with this passing, so many beloved characters have gone silent.

My husband and I were extremely saddened to learn of his passing, though we knew in our hearts it would happen before we were ready to lose him. We've been collecting his books for over 20 years, and fortunately we met him a few times. He was as delightful a speaker as he was an author.
