Ikhsior is a man of action. But picking up your opponents and dangling them a foot above the floor just isn't as effective as it ought to be when it comes to dealing with court intrigue, romantic entanglements, and high fashion.

This is a fantasy-of-manners novel set in a tropical "comic opera" court, with lots of verbal dueling and cultural detail. It's available at in Kindle and Trade Paperback at Amazon and Epub or MOBI at Air Castle Media. Free ebook versions are available in exchange for an honest review: you can respond here, or drop me a private message.

Phontaine's Gifts - The Survival Legacy, is the story of Newton Phontaine and Maggie Nevin. Newton was a brilliant visionary and a little weird. He knew the time would come when the Earth experienced apocalyptic destruction; it has happened before and Newton knows the Earth is a risky place to live. Fortunately, he had a plan to help the survivors as much as possible and ensure the continuation of civilization.

Cynthia Nelson was a college student when she started working for Newton; she never dreamt she would live to see apocalyptic destruction; but she did. As it approached, she was determined to save her brother, his ex-wife, and their five sons from certain death.

Mike and Amy Williams were caught unawares. Mike managed a grocery store. Amy worked as a dental hygienist. Mike fell victim to the relentless search for food as people crossed the country like Army ants. Mike and Amy knew they must escape to save their children from the inevitable crush of frantic, desperate people. They had to find a safe place, but they did not expect to get the help they received.

Many people refused to believe it was happening, many discovered they were not prepared, and a few survived because of Phontaine’s Gifts.

************************

I wrote this novel based, in part, on my association with colleagues who served in the Navy SEALS and my work in Ethiopia supporting sustainable approaches to agriculture and survival under the harshest conditions conceivable.

As a few reviewers have noted, "no zombies." This book will entertain and perhaps leave you with some things to consider.

Both paperback version and the Kindle edition are available on Amazon. Lots more information, including the full sized front and back cover, a sample of the book, reviews, and my biography may be found at Phontaine's Gifts.

Thanks for your time and keep on reading,
Dave

Tournament of Hearts: The Librarian Gladiator: Book One

Hamelin, a town separated from the rest of the world, has a deadly problem. Fierce, flying beasts ravage the countryside and cull the sparse human population, forcing the majority of Hamelin’s citizens to live within the safety of her boundaries for fear of being snatched away and torn into pieces. With no help in sight, the Town Council look to their gods for salvation and unearth a chilling answer to their problems.

The Tournament of Hearts – a much-celebrated, barbaric event that pits four gladiators against each other in deadly combat. Winning The Tournament brings rich rewards, fame and glory for one’s bloodline. Losing, however, results in a deadly trip to the Sacrificial Altar for you and all of those who share your blood: man, woman and child. The sacrifice is said to be a blood offering to the gods in payment for reprieve – a necessary evil for the greater good of all.

Neven Fairchild, adolescent town historian and librarian, is chosen by random draw to fight for the survival of his bloodline. Utterly inept at doing much other than reading and writing his histories, Neven must find the courage deep within himself to defeat his stronger opponents, for he discovers that much more than the lives of those he loves hangs in the balance. An evil lurks, waiting for its moment to deliver the death blow, and Neven is all that stands in its way, whether he likes it or not.

------------------------------

It's a fast-paced fantasy with none of the hub and drub that bogs the reader down. Tournament of Hearts: The Librarian Gladiator has everything that makes the fantasy genre an exciting one to read - magic, swords, dwarvish men and flying monsters! What's not to love?

It's on Amazon.com in paperback and on Kindle. It should also be up on the iTunes store as soon as they get around to approving it. That could be six months from now from what I understand, so I'm not holding my breath. ^^

The Scoloderus Conspiracy is a speculative fiction thriller about very bright people committed to stopping each other. It is the tale of a family destroyed, a leader loosing his daughter, and a professor uncovering the greater conspiracy.

Three centuries after global cataclysms destroyed and reshaped the Earth, the United Americas Trade Federation (UATF) re-emerged. In their quest for a unified continent, this super-government seized land and absorbed the territorial governments of the former North America. The UATF rose to power using information found in ancient archives. These books were gifts from the previous civilization to help make survival possible. The archive information was vital to the UATF and they have worked to possess and control all of it.

The Libre Voyageurs have lived in the continent's northern territories for centuries. They survived by finding archives, collecting information, and selling it. The UATF outlawed that activity and declared all archive information is government property. The Voyageurs defy them and have been in a desperate war with the UATF for years; however, everything is about to change.

The Voyageurs have a bold plan. They have a high-level spy in their service and he is helping them to get the information to complete a weapon system that will defeat the UATF. The Voyageurs also have the daughter of one of the UATF's top military leaders working for them. They will sacrifice anyone to get what they need; no cost is too great.

When Colonel Anthony Hammond vanishes during a secret mission in the northern territories, and hours later his wife dies and his daughter disappears, the military becomes desperate; they have gambled everything and they are loosing control. Colonel Hammond is the son-in-law of the UATF's Chief Delegate and she is furious at the Voyageurs for their ruthless treatment of her family. The Chief Delegate recruits Professor Allen Taylor, to join the military team that is trying to find Hammond, foil the Voyageur's plans, and take brutal revenge.

Set against a powerful undercurrent of distrust and resentment between Professor Taylor and the Army's Chief of Staff, General Leland, The Scoloderus Conspiracy is a three-day journey of detecting plots within plots, seeking out truths within deceptions, and racing against time to avert disaster.

*************************************

I began this novel when I worked as a research consultant to the Department of the Army in Washington, DC. I helped to develop the process for selecting the soldiers deployed to Desert Shield and later Desert Storm. Although this book has several military members, the real focus is on the power of family to give us the courage to do what we need to do. I have more information at Scoloderus Conspiracy. Thank you for your time.

I recently published my first book, Goddess (http://myBook.to/Goddess). My book blurb is below:

What would you risk to discover your power?

Olivia is a sixteen-year-old Vestal Virgin, a happy devotee of her beloved goddess Vesta in her home nation of Parcae. But when her faith in Vesta is shaken, Olivia illegally experiments with her own divine power, making a discovery that could save her country from war - if she's brave enough to share it.

After an accidental revelation proves Vesta is fake, Olivia and her fellow Virgins are tempted by a charismatic academy boy, Cassius, to invoke the real gods. Although they risk death if they are discovered, Olivia and her friends test their skills in secret experiments. But their games take an unexpected turn when flighty blonde Lucia reveals surprisingly deadly powers.

Gaius, a brilliant military student, must protect the girls and plan for war against an enemy nation while ignoring his growing attachment to Olivia. As a Vestal Virgin she has taken a holy vow of chastity, and the consequences of breaking it are severe...

As a new author I am still learning how to market my book, and need reviewers! If you are interested in the book, please feel free to contact me at author.callista.hunter@gmail.com.

>14 drardavis:

I consider writing my profession and art more of a hobby, but I guess you could still call me an artist if you want. :)

I painted the cover of Cantata in Coral and Ivory using Adobe Photoshop Elements, and a Wacom Bamboo tablet. And the one for Pavane in Pearl and Emerald (same setting, unrelated plot) also.

The current covers for my Across a Jade Sea trilogy are CGI, but I did those as well. And, of course, I painted the map showing on the middle one.

The map can be found inside the book as well. Each book actually has two maps for a total of six maps that I painted for the series. Here's my favorite one:

And I've done an entire graphic novel using CGI.

I'm also working on another graphic novel that I'm drawing instead of using CGI for, but it's not done yet.

All these works are eligible for promotion on this thread. :)
Cantata and Pavane are Fantasy, Flag in Flames is Science Fiction, and Across a Jade Sea I have been describing as dieselpunk. (Although it is a bit lacking in "punk", and reads mostly like historical adventure even though it's set in another world.)

>16 LShelby: LShelby: So you ARE an artist! That explains it. My covers are mostly cut and paste and arrange objects, although I did do a pretty nice skull and maze for one. I REALLY have to take a course or something, my figures are not much better than stick figures. :-) I think that skill would enhance my writing. At the moment I see lots of images to go with my stories, but they are fleeting and changing. Putting them down on paper ... I mean in a program, would be quite useful for consistency and descriptions.

>17 drardavis: "My covers are mostly cut and paste and arrange objects"
That's in right now. A great many of the covers put out by the big publishers these days are done that way.

But I always have to be different, I guess. ::rueful::

>18 Lyndatrue: Oops indeed. I apologize! It should now be fixed.

Each of the maps I did, I tried to make look like it was something that came out of the story. So they are done in different styles based on where the characters would have got them. That one's from the hero's country, hand painted. (Also signed, dated and with a notation as to who it was commissioned by in the bottom right corner.) The one on the cover of Treachery's Harbor is supposed to look like an etched map.

"Nice covers. Very professional."

Thanks!

I would be delighted to talk more about art stuff with people if they are interested, but maybe we should move it to some other thread?

>19 LShelby: LShelby I would definitely follow such a thread ... illustrating books and covers, but I have a lot more questions than answers.

BTW, on the cover of my last book I wanted to include images of my main characters. Several were based on well known scientists, Schroedinger, Skinner, Heisenberg, several were not. So I found images from the web, many copies all over the place. I took some images from a hair design website. All of the images were distorted or modified to fit the theme. Schroedinger was turned into a mothman with bug-eyes, antennae, and wings. However, my publisher, Authorhouse, would not let me do it because of copyright issues. It turns out that even images of ancestors, if they were taken in a photographer's studio in 1880 are not acceptable!!

I ended up removing the people and turning an old picture of my father into the mothman. :-)

If only I could have drawn my characters I would have liked the results better.

It's Prime Time in the Boreling Empire, and this season's popular apocalypse reality show has chosen the Earth and its two most popular apocalypse fears: EMP and Zombies.

Erin, a sophomore in high school, leaves school after the power goes out and planes begin falling from the sky. Although she didn't expect zombies and kidnappers, they in turn aren't expecting the petite teen to be packing a machete and a police baton.

Mark and his dad are marginal preppers faced with a choice: hunker down or help those in need - and hope the other guy doesn't have a gun.

The Professor is prepared for the apocalypse, but this EMP isn't acting like it should - and there's no such thing as zombies.

Right?

Greetings!

I am seeking reviewers for "Architects of Destiny," the first installment in a new sci-fi epic, with action/adventure, political intrigue, telekinetic powers, space travel, military, love story, and everything else you'd want in a space opera.

If you are interesting in receiving a free promotional copy in exchange for an honest review on Amazon, reply here or email me at amyduboff@gmail.com.

About the Cadicle Series
Is it possible to change destiny? The Cadicle series follows three generations of the pivotal Sietinen Dynasty as each learns their part in an elaborately orchestrated galactic conflict. Torn by politics, love and war, the Cadicle and those he holds most dear must choose between duty and morality as the true nature of their purpose unfolds. Through their roles as Agents in the Tararian Selective Service, they will be on the front lines of space battles, but the political skirmishes they must face on Tararia could prove just as dangerous. The Cadicle holds the key to winning both, but at what cost?

Volume 1: Architects of Destiny
Cris Sietinen is heir to the most powerful Dynasty on Tararia, but he couldn’t care less about business and politics. He was born with rare telekinetic gifts—abilities he would never be permitted to develop within the confines of his family’s estate, thanks to the decrees of the powerful Priesthood. While the Tararian Selective Service (TSS) offers an official telekinesis training program, joining the organization is only a distant dream. Determined to explore his potential on his own, Cris leaves Tararia and begins a new life on a cargo freighter. But, everything changes when Cris receives an unexpected training opportunity with the TSS—a chance to find a home with people like himself, free from the Priesthood and political objectives. Except, some paths are designed, and Cris’ course was set. A fast-paced space adventure with intrigue, coming-of-age and romance, this short novel is a prelude to the defining events in Tararia’s history in the ensuing years.

The Order of Right is now available at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Order-Right-P-D-Roy/dp/1515087557/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_en...

It is an epic medieval fantasy that deviates from the norm. The story is narrated as a legend written down by one of the main protagonists, Raelic, who is a scholar. This first volume of a larger story traces his earliest memories to the time of great upheaval. His own drama involves his aspirations to his guardian's vaunted position, and his uncertainty about his own lineage. His guardian sets him on an unusual path for a scholar, to have him trained in crafts, self-defense and survival skills in addition to the tomes.

When Raelic is 19, the character Lucian arrives and almost immediately becomes a rival for the approval of Raelic's guardian. Lucian also soon wins approval from the court, and within a few months, half of the town. The last few days of this volume are filled with a lot of drama and plot twists, and this volume ends with the establishment of the secret Order of Right to track down the crafty and deceptive Lucian who manages to draw out his large following with him. This is only the beginning of greater drama to come.

Hey, I'm seeking reviews for my debut novel :)

THE MELDLING is a tale of epic fantasy, set in a world where humans have been driven underground by a war not of their making, and one woman must find the truth of her existence within her own heart.

She was rescued from a darkened dungeon; brought out into the light with no memory of her past. Her only certainty was her name: Suzanna.

Her flesh marks her as a daemon, one of a race of deadly warriors locked in a war with their mortal enemies, the daevas, that has scoured the surface of the world. Humans are irrelevant to them both. But it was Lukas, a human knight, who carried her from the dungeon, nursed her back to health, and protected her from harm. Her body may be daemonic, but her soul is not, and there is a far deeper connection between her and Lukas than either of them will say.

Lukas decides to bring her to Bastion, the hidden underground city of the humanva, to face the judgment of the Distant Nine. On the journey, the truth is revealed: Suzanna is a meldling, a rare fusion of daemonva and humanva. Meldlings are unstable, dangerous, and prone to total madness. Suzanna may be the first to keep her sanity, but if the Distant Nine decide that she is a threat, she will also be the last.

Suzanna must accept her past, and finally learn who or what she really is, underneath her daemonic skin. Drawn into events beyond her control, the meldling will become the key to ending the war - but will it be with the destruction or the salvation of the daemonva?

And are her feelings for one human knight real?

Fidelio's Automata, my second book, was published this May on Amazon. This is my first foray into the steampunk genre. I would greatly appreciate any and all reviews!
In the year 1901, Fidelio Espinoza, a brilliant young Cuban engineer, comes to America to promote his spider automaton, which he believes will revolutionize commerce and industry. His initial prototype is stolen, falling into the wrong hands. He teams up with Hank, a war-veteran turned Quaker, to prevent his creation from being used for destruction. Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and other historical figures appear in the story.
To celebrate the recent release of the print edition, I'm currently having a release sale until Wednesday 8/19. The e-book versions of Fidelio, as well as my previous book Centrifugal force, are available for $0.99.

The most enjoyable science fiction novel I have read in several years

Rarity from the Hollow by Robert Eggleton is the most enjoyable science fiction novel I have read in several years. Who could think of an intergalactic handbook for entrepreneurs? Who could turn a tree-hugger into a paranormal event of death-defying significance? Who could create characters so believable, so funny, so astonishingly human (and not)?

Robert Eggleton, that’s who.

I put this book on my IPhone, and it followed me everywhere for several days. Strangers smiled politely at my unexpected laughter in the men’s room toilet stall. They looked away as I emerged, waving the IPhone at them as if it might explain something significant.

Oddly, the novel explains a great deal that has become significant in our society. Rarity from the Hollow is satire at its best and highest level. It is a psychological thriller, true to traits of mankind (and other species). It is an animal rights dissertation (you will laugh when you understand why I write that). It celebrates the vilest insect on earth (make that Universe).

The characters created by Robert Eggleton will bug your brain long after you smoke, uh, read the final page. Thanks for the laughs, the serious thoughts, the absolute wonder of your mind, Mr. Eggleton. A truly magnificent job.

You have my permission to use this however you see fit, with the following attribution:

Hi,

The above review of Rarity from the Hollow by the retired Editor of Reader's Digest was one of the first. The novel continues to receive glowing reviews by those who are not prudish, fainthearted, or easily offended. My novel has shocked some reviewers as it certainly is not mainstream science fiction. If you are interested in reading the reviews, the novel is for sale on Amazon where a Look Inside, and additional reviews are posted. I'm not recommending Amazon because the novel is sold from other outlets as a paperback and eBook. But, Amazon is the only place where most, but not all, of recent book reviews are posted in one place. Please look at the negative reviews also because Rarity from the Hollow is not for everybody, no book is for everybody and it would be a pretty boring world if such would be the case.

Here's my inappropriate reaction to star ratings of book reviews, and concerning a three star review that Rarity from the Hollow got yesterday:

Do you remember the cancelled TV show, "Cheaters?" I watched a few scenes because it was so poorly done, like a pulp SF or teen horror film, that it was laughable. There was a team that tracked and videoed people cheating on their spouses and lovers, with emotionally charged "impromptu" interviews of those "done wrong" and the cheaters in scenes at motels, etc.

This show could be resurrected by Amazon for a niche audience -- us. I would watch it. It could target authors who pay for book reviews, who have their friends submit reviews, and who pay for high ratings by contracting with book promotions companies. The producers of the show could follow up with interviews of the book reviewers who participate in such scams. It would be funny to watch the reactions of authors and reviewers who get caught. Of course, if materialized, such a show would be canceled after one episode because the entire system appears corrupt - Stars on Book Reviews. Ugh!

Sometimes I feel like cheating just to be on the same playing field as other authors. If I had a (prescription of Viagra) more friends who would engage in such unethical conduct, I would have been very tempted to cheat yesterday. Rarity from the Hollow got a glowing review that was given three stars. I've looked inside stuff on Amazon that didn't have punctuation and which was rated an average of five stars, average, with a ton of reviews. Here's what the reviewer of Rarity from the Hollow said:

"Yeah, the rating stuff is a bit of stupid amazon-thing which we all have to live with. To make matters 'worse', I follow the goodreads rating, meaning a 3/5 is a book I like, whereas a two is 'ok'. Only what I think are , for me, instant classics get a 5 and near-classics a 4. So in my little world a 3 is a score I would be really happy about! But again, thanks to amazon not everyone perceives it that way (making matters even worse is the fact that goodreads is a part of amazon , but both use a different rating systems)."

-- Tim Dams

Except that the book reviewer explained that he used ESL and didn't know what "switching" to punish a child meant (a huge cultural divide for a review of my novel), he produced an honorable review which read in relevant part:

"...Even though all characters are rather flat, each of them is fun to follow and after a few chapters, once the somewhat dark vibe subsides, they fit perfectly in the crazy story that follows. Funny short conversations really made it worth the read, such as: 'I'll announce the exclusive date on the main page and modify our hit description and eBay account.' 'I'll tell Mommy and Daddy.' And little nuggets of wisdom such as 'It's just a show to impress. Actual greatness is much less dramatic' were also consistently available which made the whole read more enjoyable than the plot might predict. So tip for those who plan to read this book: don't read the synopsis and just remember how fond you were of 'An exaltation of Larks' or of the 2001 movie 'Evolution' with David Duchovny. Fun read!"

I liked this review of Rarity from the Hollow. It was complimentary. It's a shame that few people will read it because of the three star rating, and that also hurt the book's overall average, and which could prompt a prospective reader to move on to check out other novels that have five star ratings, even if those other novels....

Today, I feel "ethically challenged" because of the three star rating of this review. Do you ever consider cheating? As usual, I'm sure that this temptation will pass. Besides, Lacy Dawn, the protagonist of Rarity from the Hollow, would kick my butt if I ever did anything wrong, and got her interviewed on the "Cheaters" TV show.

Thanks for reading. Robert

I'm looking for reviews for my book Llyn Ar Bryn Falls, a post-apocalypse adventure story.

This is the blurb:
An epic journey across a future Britain.

It is a world like ours, places still familiar yet made strange by passing of time.

Three hundred years after a catastrophe that has brought mankind to the brink of extinction, living is simpler and more brutal.

q-cave is now available in Paperback and Kindle/eBook on Amazon. This being my first, a sci-fi adventure story, I would appreciate any reviews or input.

q-cave TAKES PLACE IN 2163, where years of trying to terraform Mars have failed, and only a handful of dedicated researchers call the planet home. In a subterranean research facility on Earth, a reclusive, twenty-six-year-old female scientist named Qualia, who has suffered years of brain infusions, manages vast quantum systems, sustaining life on both Earth and Mars. Continuing her research in quantum teleporting, q-porting, it sickens her to watch the covert and unsavory acts of q-port “customers” as they express their anger, lust, jealousy, and greed on unsuspecting hosts. But, after years of secretly watching and obsessing over a loving couple on Mars, Qualia risks and indulges in a q-port of her own, to witness the birth of their first child, Maris, also the first human to be born on Mars... read more at:

Kaiju Fall is available in paperback and Kindle/ebook. If you are interested in reviewing the book, contact me and I can get you an e-book (PDF or MOBI) in return for your honest review on Amazon and Librarything. (If you also would like to publish the review on Goodreads, your personal blog, a site you review for, or anywhere else, I am open to it.)

Kaiju Fall is like a whale fall, except instead of a whale, it is a giant kaiju that is killed south of Houston.

This is the story of what happens to a town after the kaiju is killed. What do you do with a body longer than your city limits? Where does the skeleton go? What do you do when you were supposed to be vacationing in summer, and now your house is ravaged? How do you piece back your life after such a cataclysmic event? And then there is another kaiju sighted off the coast. A scavenger kaiju, and it is headed straight to Houston…

So many great books here! I recently published a Novella: Skye's Lure, and would love to have it reviewed by anyone interested. It's .99 on Amazon (and free today only), but I can supply a free copy to whoever would like to read and review it. No cliffhangers, no sex or swearing, just a fun, clean, urban fantasy with romance elements.

The current state of world affairs has certainly deteriorated over the last eight years. The reaction to religious conflict that I first explored in The Fifth Prophet is more relevant now than ever. That book is a near-future, sci-fi novel full of religion, philosophy, politics, physics and mathematics, imagined in one creative explosion of inspiration. Surprisingly, it led me to write a series of four more related novels, but that left The Fifth Prophet as an introduction that deserved to be re-edited.

The “near-future” has come and gone. The three “prophecies” are yet to be fulfilled, but many of the technological details that were on the verge of implementation are now science-fact, such as Google glasses and the discovery of hundreds of exoplanets. Some of the horrors I predicted have been fulfilled, the likelihood of others has increased. Bin Laden died less poetically in real life, but Hilary Clinton may still become president. So I improved the style and left the story unchanged. If you read it as belonging to a timeline from a parallel universe not so far removed from our own reality it is a nice retrofit into the full cosmology of the Family of Man series.

Mir Maid: now offering free ebook for honest review
There are secrets known only to Sea Kings, and memories so dark they are buried deep within the earth...

For fans of shows like Firefly, Star Trek, and Dr. Who comes a quirky intergalactic adventure about a Maid from Mir.

Ana doesn't look forward to another wedding season with its blaring reminders that she's a freak who will always be alone. Thanks to a couple of pesky recessive genes that show up every few generations, she's gifted telepathically and marked from birth for a life of chastity and service as a Maid.

Ana is just one of the galaxy's misfits that leave their homes in hopes of acceptance into the Alliance Academy. Unfortunately, the nearest Academy is located in Fraternity City, a space station orbiting the water world of Mir. Controlled by clones intent on creating a master race, Fraternity City, a place of shadows where few dare the radiation of the daylight hours, is rumored to be cursed. This story follows four cadets from distant worlds as they find their way in a city filled with pirates, rogues, scientists, and star eyed dreamers.

Can one Maid from Mir make a difference? Will secrets be revealed in time to keep a dark history from being repeated?

Title: The Other Side
Genre: YA Fantasy
Synopsis:

Thomas is a 13-year-old boy who doesn’t fit in. He doesn’t know why until he meets Cindy, the woman with the red hair and red eyes. She tells him he is a wizard and takes him off to the magical world. He begins to attend the School of Merlin, but doesn’t fit in there either. Even as a wizard, Tom is unique. He is the first wizard to be born to Wanderers (humans without magic). As Tom tries to adjust to this new world, he is plagued by recurring dreams of blood and murder. With the help of his few friends, he goes on an adventure to discover the meaning behind the dreams and his unusual origins.

What Tom doesn’t realise is that his life is in danger. A powerful group of wizards known as the Le Fay don’t want him around. They see Wanderers as an inferior race – one they should be ruling over. The son of a Wanderer being a wizard is a danger to their ideals and so, one way or another, they want him gone.

So many folks offering such interesting reads, where to start?

I've seen many people remark that they felt the need to write something that they themselves would want to read, and I share that disposition. Maybe it's only my own bookstore that's an issue, but it does seem like the variety has thinned out quite a bit since I started there in 2000, so entertaining myself was as a good a reason as any other to write my own story.

Disquiet the Heavens is only the first book in what will be a series of unknown length, since the project grew to such massive proportions that I almost feel I've bitten off more than I can chew. In fact, my next project in the works is a much lighter read, almost young adult, and is on a much smaller scale, which has the working title of "Waiting in the Wings", also a fantasy setting, and in fact in the same setting as my current published work, only it takes place a continent away.

You can check out Disquiet the Heavens via Amazon, and is also available via Smashwords for a few bucks. Smashwords actually has a downloadable sample available. The race my hero comes from is a race heavily influenced by sidereal phenomenon, with many of their social institutions having names revolving around stars etc. Thus, when things start to take a turn for the worse, it is almost like the heavens are being...well, disquieted. Hence the title.

Finally, as a matter of principle of the movement, anyone who's a member of the Zeitgeist Movement Forum can just message me there for a free copy. Thanks, and I look forward to sampling/reviewing you guys' own work!

http://www.amazon.com/Disquiet-Heavens-Comfort-Stars-Book-ebook/dp/B018H83QVG?ie...

I've also built a little website, just to get some practice doing such.

I’m excited to announce I have a new book about to be published--a science fiction adventure entitled Into the Out. Told through the eyes of a teenage girl, it concerns eleven high school students on a field trip in the desert who come across a long-buried starship. The ship takes off with them aboard and whisks them away into interstellar space. They don't know where they’re going or why, but they have to pool their resources to survive their mysterious journey into deep space.

The book is being considered by Kindle Scout, and this is where you come in. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Kindle Scout is a reader-driven program by Amazon. It’s somewhat along the lines of Kickstarter, where the readers themselves choose what they’d like to see published. In this case, though, you don’t have to put up any money, not a cent. You just visit the campaign site and read the opening section of the book, about 5,000 words. Then, if you like what you see and want to read more, you vote for it. If the book gets enough votes, Amazon will publish it as an ebook under their own imprint.

Oh, and as a thank-you gift for supporting it, you’ll get a free copy of the final ebook

What can you do to help? Just a few simple things:

* During the campaign period (May 15 through June 14, 2016), visit https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/O60VRM9CWF6W

* Read the opening section of Into the Out.

* If you enjoy the book and want it to get published, nominate it. You can have up to 3 active nominations going at any one time.

That’s all it takes. You’ll be notified when the campaign period is over. If enough other people agree with you that the book should be published, you’ll get an early ebook copy with my compliments.

I hope you’ll enjoy the sample, and thank you for your support.

Why can nothing ever be simple?
On the rebel colony planet Elysium, a man claiming to be the next Messiah is brutally executed in a live video streamed by religious extremists. Nothing terribly original so far for Elysium.
Only this time, the man doesn't die.
When cynical chief of security Asher Perez is sent to find the man, it soon becomes apparent that no-one is who they seem and that something dark is stirring in the shadows.
Something that has been watching humanity since the dawn of history.

Hello friends!
My first book series is a scifi and fantasy trilogy "The Adventures of Pancha Forkers".

The first part is "Pancha Forkers and the Egghead Robots." It's a book loaded with lots of humor and fun plus the lively action and adventure of five kids and their dog.

Book Description:

Xobo the Robo, possessed by the evil soul of Mr. God, plans the destruction of Mother Nature to reestablish its fictional alien ancestors system of Fathers and Sons. It raised a Robo Family and demonic Army; they run amok and cause devastation.. Militaries fail against Metal Monsters.. Ultimately, five children with Pure Hearts were chosen to stop Lord Xobo. At last, the War begins.

Quotes from the book:

Lord Xobo - "If there are no plants, no animals, no women, and only reanimated corpses of Fathers and Sons - The Brutons and Kreaks, then a better world, a New World could be created. The human race would have every opportunity to survive without plants, animals and women.

Who knows, we may even go to other galaxies and annihilate plants, animals and women everywhere, until only Fathers and Sons remain in the whole universe. We would sing the glorious smell of putrefied corpses forever and ever."

Uncle Jumbo - "Master Bodhitaran, I'm sorry to say this, but I have no other choice. I could guess what you are going to ask. I shudder to think about those creatures - Brutons and Kreaks. What little children could do against them? Please don't expect me to send these kids to do war against murderous Robots."

Monk Bodhitaran - "No government on Earth has the tech to stand against Xobo and his United Family. Except us. These five children could beat them with the help of these formidable Purple Forks and few of my own magical devices. I'll guide them to victory. Leave them to me, I pledge my life to protect them!"

The book is available in Smashwords. If anyone is interested, I would give you a coupon code for free download in exchange for a review.

Cheers !☺

Hello,

Trump Fascism is not sci fi or fantasy, but is a dystopian novel of a very possible near future, fiction but scrupulously researched and based on evidence. One kind reviewer called it "Tom Clancy for the left."

I'd be happy to send ebooks to any honest reviewer. If your opinion is already made up by seeing the title, please pass. Obviously those very interested in politics and history as well as speculative fiction would be ideal.

"My name is Chief of Staff of the Army General Ulysses Benito Butler, and this is my story. This is the story of how Mr. Drumpf (Trump) became president, destroyed American democracy and turned the US into a fascist state, started two disastrous wars, threw America into a Second Great Depression, tried to expel millions, imprisoned hundreds of thousands, and even tortured and executed thousands of fellow Americans. This is also the story of how myself and my fellow soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and civilian volunteers fought him in the Second Civil War."

How To Survive Your Death (An Autobiography Written Posthumously) is a private letter between vampire and daughter that answers the two questions Emily has been asking her mother her entire life: Who is my father and will you ever make me a vampire? The answers to these questions take us on a thrilling adventure that tramps through centuries and around the world. Emily does not forgive her mother for being a vampire, writing, “She left me to read this while she went out for dinner. I publish this now hoping that it won't be you.” With over 225 years as the undead, Sarah, has many stories to tell, from eating the man who laughed when the Liberty Bell cracked, to meeting Mark Twain, to surviving Titanic. At heart the book is two love stories: one the love of mother and daughter, the other, the love between vampire and vegetarian. It was not love at first bite.

>65 jedaiahx:, wow, that confused me. I couldn't reconcile the plot description with the impression this was Star Wars fan fiction, until it finally clicked what the author's name was. For promotion's sake and to avoid that confusion, I'd recommend in future maybe use the author's full first name ("Jedi" is like a nickname? short form?), reduce it to just the initial "J.", or at least place the word "by" in front of it.

Hi there! I'm new to LibraryThing and wanted to mention my near-future cyberthriller, Sleep State Interrupt, recently published by See Sharp Press. In Sleep State Interrupt, a giant media corporation has taken over the Internet, created an addictive virtual reality called BetterWorld, and controls nearly all information. Politicians do their bidding and humanity serves a privileged few. Waylee Freid, an unemployed Baltimore journalist with ever-worsening bipolar disorder, is the only hope for a brighter future. She and her friends bust a notorious teenage hacker out of jail. Hunted by Homeland Security, they sneak into a presidential fundraiser to record incriminating admissions. But to reach an audience and wake up the world, they'll have to break into one of the most secure facilities ever built.

Hi,

I'm looking to increase the number of reviews for my fantasy adventure novel, The Alchemist's Box, and so would be happy to send a copy to anyone who might have time to read it, and hopefully post reviews on Librarything, Amazon, and Goodreads. On their mission they face dangers from both human and magical realms. Please contact me at contact@alexavrio.com if you would like a copy. I can provide kindle (mobi) or epub versions for other e-readers.

I wrote ‘The Recovery’ out of desperate desire to add to the many stories told by students while in school. It can be psychological sometimes and my strong interest in knowing what happens in a patient's mind during the recovery from a mental disorder inevitably knocked me to merge the two situations. It is my first book and I welcome every criticism, comments and ideas for that matter. I can also assure you that you will enjoy the book in various ways. Synopsis and link to 'The Recovery' are indicated below:

Professor Mor recovered from a mental disorder in a psychiatric hospital. He endured many psychological torments during the transition to a benign phase of his ill health. His wild imaginations presented a series of complex events that relate to his social and professional background. He is faced with a hopeless task to narrate all that happened to his colleagues

Dark Fantasy/Paranormal Thriller for Review - The Lerewood - pdf, mobi, epub copies available
http://amzn.to/2iNUWBX

The Lerewood
By Andrea Churchill
Publisher: Kellan Publishing
ISBN: 978-1514645901
ASIN: B0104XBP1K
Genre: Dark fantasy, fantasy, horror, thriller, paranormal
Formats Available For Review: pdf, mobi, epub

Legends speak of a place called Lerewood, an isolated little village set in the middle of an immeasurable, ghostly wood. The townspeople suffer from severe poverty and filth, living more like savage animals than a cultured civilization. However, despite the town’s inhuman conditions, the townspeople never seem to die from disease or starvation, and their numbers only seem to grow with each generation. No one knows the truth of how Lerewood came to be, but many secrets seem to revolve around an ancient, legendary creature that lives in the surrounding forest. They say she’ll hunt anyone who dares trespass onto her land; those who enter the forest never come back.

One middle aged man, Uallas, depressed and tired of abuse from his monstrous wife, decides to commit suicide by entering the wood. But when he steps foot into the mythical dark forest, Uallas finds that everything he ever knew about the town, and himself, were lies. These new discoveries only lead to more questions, where the truth can only be found in the mysterious, undiscovered world.

The Lerewood introduces the topics of natural evil, identity, and judgment, all while moving the reader with detailed personification. It is a tale of darkness, and will appeal to many readers with its rich, moody deions of the eerie, mythological forest.

I thought I'd try my hand at Fantasy, so I wrote Sir Owen: Champion of Murhaven which I hope will raise money for the National Autistic Society.

Thirteen-year-old Owen is thrown in at the deep end when an attack on Don Castle leaves him the last knight of Murhaven.
With the aid of Gabby, a girl the same age who is gifted with languages, and Clockface, a mechanical knight built decades ago, he must overcome a series of challenges to rescue Princess Lyssa from the devious clutches of Ernie the Earl in this fantasy comedy set in a world of chivalry, magic and clockwork.

Xeno yearns to have access to The Nth Dimension like The White
Boys, famed telepaths who suffered brain damage when they made contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. Out of work as a bartender since the Shoki Pao dance club mysteriously burned down, Xeno's lackluster lifestyle is getting harder to maintain. The public pill silos that dispense Sunlite, a one-size-fits-all mood
elevating drug, haven't been refilled in months, so the citizens of Metropa turn to designer drugs like Black Magic, an addictive knock-off with terrible side effects.

Having survived an overdose of Black Magic, and successfully revived by Drinama, a brain implant slipped to him as a Mickey at a job fair, Xeno earns an entry level position as an agent for secret service organization Intellegella. Garry, his handler,
introduces Xeno to the industrial version of the black box, allowing Xeno's pineal gland access to synthetic sensory perception with the turn of a dial, along with the Noumenol patch, a skin absorbed drug that stabilizes his vital signs so that he doesn't suffer a cardiac arrest.

Xeno's initial mission is to test the black box on the field, under Garry's watchful eye, and to locate Trianne, an ex co-worker, ex model, ex pole dancer for the Shoki Pao, gone missing and showing signs of spontaneous human combustion, an emerging side effect of Black Magic, and a public safety hazard.

All he has to do is bring Trianne back to Intellegella for treatment. It's that simple . . . according to Garry.

My first book. Would love some reviews and feedback.

Alexandra's family kept a huge secret from her for 21 years. A secret that is now opening her eyes to a weird reality and biting her in the ass. If she had only known, she would have been prepared when her life gets flipped upside down and actual trolls start trying to abduct her so the ancient vampire Master can use her to take control of the human world. Now, even with a whole army of fae hunters at her back, plus a certain sword-wielding, aggravatingly gorgeous, jerk fae at her side, she will have to fight her own demons, old and new, if she wants to save what little family she has left plus all the rest of the human race. No pressure though.

"One of the cleverest stories I've read this year. It’s not strictly science fiction, not strictly dystopian and it’s not strictly Philip Marlowe either, although I think it could be described as a smashup of all of these influences. It's whip-smart, well-paced, deeply satirical and dappled with just enough dark and light to keep the reader riveted"
ANNE CUNNINGHAM (IRISH INDEPENDENT, IRISH TIMES, SUNDAY TIMES OF LONDON)

"Brave New World meets 1984 in this Big Brother masterpiece."
KRISTI ELIZABETH, SAN FRANCISCO BOOK REVIEW

"Freaking amazing. Any agent or publishing house that passed this up made a big mistake. This is also a nomination for our Novel of the Year award. Captivating and timely, with a perfect bittersweet ending." SANDRA RUTTAN, UNDERGROUND BOOK REVIEWS

"A quality piece of work." SFCROWSNEST

"A satisfying blend of literary inspection, social commentary, dystopian world analysis and individual dilemmas to keep readers guessing and thinking to the end of Billy's perplexing, fast-paced day. The satire involved is so delicate that initial references might slip by readers at first; but as the story progresses, these insights and references become tangible, recognizable parts of a plot that readers will come to anticipate with delight. Highly recommended." DIANE DONOVAN, MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

It is late in 2018 and I am an author of a book, 2317. The Marines at War. Book 1 Walkabout and Watson. It is military sci-fi but it develops the life of Marine among other Marines; the life of the same man with his family, especially his mother; and his unexpected meeting with the woman who would become his paramour. Hence it is a love story - and, for anyone who recognizes the The Princess Bride or Casablanca, all the best adventure stories are love stories.

It is also a Catholic story as the interior life of this Marine involves a Catholicity which works itself out in his life as a man, and as a Marine, during a war. This book includes references to ideas from books by CS Lewis and GK Chesterton.

It is available as a e- or i-book with the usual suspects, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books (formerly iBooks), KOBO and a few others.

For reference purposes, the second book, which is completely written, is 2319. The Marines at War. Book 2 Andy and Hepburn; and I am 63,000 words into the third book which is expected to have a title at some point. If I am asked if this is a trilogy, I believe that to be true, but until the end of book 3 one cannot be sure. I have read enough books to understand that there are backstories but these books each carry the backstory of the title character as an integral part of the story line (eg, Walkabout and Andy). You'll get to understand at least some of the motivations for these people, the why they do what they do, as you read the stories.

The first two books run slightly over 111,000 words, so fairly long novels. I anticipate book 3 will achieve a like number of words.

I am planning to publish the second book later this month.

Cordially,
Donald Todd

Hi! Having written for a living since my teens (mainly freelance for newspapers and magazines), I recently took the plunge and published 3 novels. Despite wonderful reviews from readers and established authors, I could urgently do with expanding my readership. I'm therefore looking for reviewers interested in some free reading, if possible in return for reviews on Amazon, LibraryThing etc.. If interested, you can get in touch using the form on my website, http://rupringle.com/fiction , or just reply to this thread.

Here are links and quick blurbs for the books I have out so far (all currently available on Kindle Unlimited. October Song is available as a paperback, and the other two will have paperback versions by early 2019):

OCTOBER SONG
'Reminded me of Iain Banks at his fiery best.' 'Superlative.' Gary Gibson, author of Angel Stations.
Coira Keir is a respected police officer. When a bomb explodes outside the North British Council Building in Edinburgh, dozens of bystanders are left dead. Among the critically wounded is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, whose safety was Keir's responsibility.
Now Keir is missing.
MI5's Sebastian Blakeslee and Lorna Ainsworth are tasked with tracking Keir down before more bombs go off. What follows is a chase towards the front of an intensifying war. Meanwhile, someone seems to be going to extraordinary lengths to stop Keir being found.
Both darkly gripping roller-coaster ride and a blistering reflection on a world on the edge of collapse.

A TIME OF ASHES
Before the Corruption came, Murrin Kentle lived a scholarly life in a world where the largest island could be walked across in a day, and humans traded and fished in bladeships made from the bones of the gigantic sea monsters patrolling its oceans. Now the Corruption is here, and nothing in any of the worlds of the Sundered Realm will ever be the same.
The first part of Fate and the Wheel, a beautifully written and wildly imaginative epic tale of friendship, loss, revenge, war, and survival.
UK link https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DY8WFS7, US link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DY8WFS7

HUNTING GODS
The Kingdom of Tys is besieged. Amidst the chaos, a wounded scholar seeks allies for a mission borne of little more than hope. The Corruption, however, has other plans. Far away, the crew of the bladeship Fat Chance find that they have traded death by fire for more insidious perils. Held in the impregnable Castle of the Four Winds, sisters Sheehan and Seeli find that a dungeon is a kinder fate than some of the alternatives. Yet even in despair, Sheehan will need to make decisions affecting the fates of worlds.
Part Two of the epic Fate and the Wheel series, Hunting Gods is part fantastical thriller, part journey of existential discovery.

The Vampire of Maple Town

A fairy tale that reads like dark chocolate. Sweet and inviting, yet it is not until the first page that the bitterness seeps through its syrupy prose. A fairy tale about a vampire and a witch simply trying to survive under the tall tales and rumors that prove that even the kindest townspeople can become far scarier than any vampire or witch. Welcome to Maple Town.

After a young boy becomes a reluctant vampire, he is forced to sign a contract to kill someone in his home of Maple Town. This is the condition behind the mysterious adoption of fifteen-year old Charlie. While under the care of the grieving widower, Vincent Prowl, Charlie can never go outside. Vincent's only explanation is that it's too dangerous. One day Charlie escapes and Vincent realizes he'll do anything to save his son —even if it means the destruction of the town he once loved in exchange for he and his son's freedom. All the while, unbeknownst to the fact that a young, locked away witch named Alice holds the key to preventing a tragedy and freeing Charlie from his gruesome contract and the deadline that grows closer with each day.

It is currently available. Check it out on Amazon! Free ebook versions are available in exchange for an honest review: you can respond here, or drop me a private message. With that, the crowd has hushed, the stage is set, and I hope for a good reception from the audience.

I have just released the latest novel in my New York Vampire series, NYV: GOTH. I am looking for some early reviews so I am offering ebook copies of books 1, 1.5 and 2 so that reviewers can binge-read the whole series. I can send epub, mobi or pdf formats.

NYV: PUNK is a dark and sexy coming of age story of adventure, music and horror set in the harsh 1980s New York Punk scene. (UF / NA)

With only his mother for company, rural isolation in East Texas was as boring and bleak a life as Christian could imagine. The most exciting thing to look forward to were monthly visits from the nice old lady who took his mother shopping in town. After being subjected to a bizarre and humiliating birthday ritual, Christian leaves home to think things through, and when the opportunity for adventure presents itself, he jumps at the chance. But being on his own is more terrifying than a sheltered and naïve teenager would ever have dreamed.

Miraculously surviving a brutal attack in a bus station restroom, Christian finds himself being hunted across the country by an ancient, bloodthirsty evil, putting him and those he cares for in mortal peril. Homeless and alone, he is befriended by a group of streetwise kids but danger still lurks around every corner.

He must quickly learn to navigate the hazards of the gritty streets of New York City if he is going to survive the tough Punk music scene long enough to discover his destiny. Can he survive on the street? Will he find the life of adventure he hoped for? And what the hell does OMFUG mean anyway?

Oh… and there’s vampires.

Sometimes, death is just the beginning.

It's 1811, the spring wind blowing out of the western desert heralds disaster for the Mamluks of Egypt. Cairo is tearing itself apart in its struggle for modernization. Amym, a former Georgian slave soldier, seizes an opportunity to secure the freedom of the woman he loves. He must navigate the political unrest of a nation in turmoil and risks more than just his life to be with his childhood sweetheart. But the political intrigue and violence of an unstable nation force him to flee the only home he has ever known and fall into the grips of an evil that has lain in hiding for centuries. Will he find a way for them to be together while those around them die, or will he fall under the sway of a far reaching society of ancient, blood thirsty khafash?

Blood Stains Don't Show On Black!

Being friends with a vampire can be hazardous to your health. That’s what Christian’s tribe of New York City street punks has been finding out the hard way. Ever since his transformation, the people who get close to him have been dropping like flies at the hands of the fiend that infected him. His girlfriend Cara was dead and his roommate Rachel lay grievously wounded as he headed towards an uncertain and perilous future.

Now he must quickly learn to defend himself if he is going to face The Chord and find a place in vampire society. Fortunately, he has his sword-wielding mentor Amym and a beautiful Gothic exotic dancer named Joyce, to help guide him.

Hello reader! I would like to give you a free digital copy of my novel Live Soldier in return for an honest Amazon review, which you can leave here: https://amzn.to/2FRzhDh

Blending elements of military, cyberpunk and apocalyptic science fiction, Live Soldier is a fast paced ride through a damaged but fascinating near-future world. Fans of Red Rising, The Murderbot Diaries and Snow Crash will be entertained. The cover image and blurb are below.

I wasn't always a marine with a government camera in my eye...

Before they hacked my head, stole my daughter and sent me to war, I sold drugs to plastic celebrities in the clouds. Not the most honest of professions, I know. But this world is broken, and although my city presents a glittering face to the ruins, surviving here is dirty work.

Far below the movie sets, the gene editing labs and the body mod studios, another city exists. A place of flooded streets and tainted air. You wouldn’t want to live there - none of us do. So can you blame me for burning my morals in return for a glimpse of the sun? Sure, it was far from perfect, but nothing is these days.

Then I made a mistake. Crashed the wrong party, sold a good time to bad people, implicated myself in a terrorist attack on an A-list star. And the violence didn’t end there. Now the poor have been accused of massacring the rich, and to atone for our supposed sins, we are being trained for battle.

The task ahead of us sounds insane. Infiltrate the island stronghold of the planet’s most advanced post-human scientist. Learn its weaknesses, and lead an army to conquer it.

Insane? Scratch that, it sounds like suicide.

Except for one thing. That scientist is known as the Designer, and I was one of his first creations…

Sound interesting? If so, message me with your email address and I will send you a copy in the format of your choice. Or you can reach me at:

Hey. I guess it's time to self promote? I guess it is better than throwing pop-up ads at your faces.

My novel is a YA GameLit. If you're not familiar with the Sub-Genre, Think Ready Player One. Which if I had to pick a book that was closest to mine that would be it, though my stakes are much smaller.

There are lots of other books in it, like portal-fantasy, Dungeon-Core, LitRPG, It is a wide and fun sub-genre.

blurb:
Nate wants more to life than moving from town to town, hustling chess with his con-man grandfather or wagering pick-up games online. A new immersive game opens up the chance to bring in a steady paycheck. Maybe enough to convince his grandfather to stay straight. Little does he know how his actions will change his life.

My debut novel is now out on both digital and paperback format and can be downloaded for free from Amazon over the course of the next three days. If you feel you have a bit of time to read it I would appreciate your comments and impressions.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NF7W559

It is a novel for dreamers, lovers and stargazers but if you like John W Campbell and alien-themed novels this may be right up your street, as well. The novels also deals with themes of anxiety and loneliness and, for this reason, I have dedicated it to all the lonely and the destitute out there. And there are many of those. If you have questions don't hesitate to comment. Hope you will enjoy it and/ or it will bring some comfort, if needed; and if you like please leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads. Thanks.

My fantasy book, Kilts and Catnip (The Shrouded Isle Book 1) was published in late February. I'd be happy to give a digital copy to readers for an honest review.

https://amzn.to/2ThGhLG

Here is the blurb.

Danger lurks in the forest.
But Greg Gillie, a handsome Scot with a mysterious past, protects the Shrouded Isle and the lands beyond from the menacing fae.

A woman’s arrival disturbs the wee folk.
Becca Shaw, an American widow, takes a family vacation to the island. Each day she remains, Greg struggles as more and more fae steal away from the forest hill and menace the people.

Can the exodus be stopped?
As the danger increases, Becca strives to repair her relationship with her still-grieving girls and befriend the suspicious villagers. Resisting their blossoming feelings for one another, Greg and Becca team up to find answers. Why are the fae escaping? How can Greg and Becca stop them?

For their sake and the sake of the world, let’s hope they’re up to the task.

Kilts and Catnip, the first book in a new fantasy series, is filled with sweet romance, delightful humor, and exciting adventure.

"Why Can't You See Them?"

Officer Brigitte McCray led the small, pale woman into the interrogation room. She pulled out a chair for her at the table, then sat down on the other side. She used a pen to write the woman’s name, Allison Derby, and her address on a notepad. Then, with a blank look on her face, she said, “Tell me again why you’re here.”

“I killed three people and I’m afraid I’ll kill again. You need to arrest me right now,” Allison said.

"The Tree of Death"

Pedro Oliveira circled a spot on the map that lay unfolded on the table before him. A thin film of sweat shined upon his forehead. Dust motes floated in the light that beamed through the hut's wooden shutters.

He tapped his pen in the circle as he looked at Isabella Silva and said, "Here's the place, Professor Silva. The last known location of the Apuelito tribe. It's a month's journey from here through the jungle on foot, but you shouldn't go there. No one should. It's too dangerous."

Isabella said, "Thank you, Mr. Oliveira. I appreciate your concern, but I've been searching for this lost rainforest tribe for many years. I'm too close now to give up. Besides, I've been on a half-dozen expeditions through the jungle, the last two of them by myself. I think I'll be fine."

“AN UNWANTED AND UNWILLING HERO” is a story that started as web novel and can be said to be a reaction to the concept of selfless heroes that I have never really adhered to. Despite the character origins, I wrote him, hoping to resonate with people as someone they could see themselves becoming rather than someone to aspire to because he really isn’t a nice person.

Synopsis: An amnesiac man finds himself in what he assumes to be another world. Declared a hero by a church quickly losing power, he’s pushed to take arms against an inhuman invader.
But he has no intention to fight, much less for people he can’t trust nor love. Unwelcome, unwilling, and caring for himself above all, what is he to do when his own side feels more threatening than the supposed enemy?
Laev, as the main character will get to name himself, is definitely not a normal person - he has inhuman powers – but due to his amnesia and the feelings he inherited from his mysterious past, his mindset is definitely no one of a hero.
The character mainly cares about his survival and future, but also his wife and dependents. Using a wealth of modern knowledge – scientific, historical and political - he will do whatever it takes to ensure a bright future for himself, and if need be the world.

The story follows the interaction of the character in an unfamiliar feudal setting and the truth of his origin is only settled at the very end. Despite the fact the end can be considered open-ended, the main character gets a proper ending, which can be considered a good one.
I am no professional writer, nor that good in English, but the book has been corrected and edited by an Irish professional editor… even so, there might be some quirks of mine left.

It starts with a classic case of amnesia, but I hope the story after that is not so cliche.

Hi everyone!

I just finished a near-future cyberpunk trilogy in which an unemployed bipolar journalist and her hacktivist friends try to stop a giant media corporation and a corrupt president from controlling the world. The first book, Sleep State Interrupt, was a Compton Crook finalist for best first speculative fiction novel.

If you'd like to take a look, you can find the first two books, Sleep State Interrupt and The Wrath of Leviathan, wherever books are sold online. The finale, Zero-Day Rising, comes out Sep. 1 (See Sharp Press). I will probably be seeking reviewers for that, but keep in mind it's not stand-alone.

My web site has book samples, short stories, and a couple of drink recipes, under "Free Stuff."

Hi all,

So I have been working on fixing up a book I published back in 2013 for a second edition - I have a new cover and have made some changes which are flagged in the author's note for the new edition. I am still waiting on proofs for the paperback to make sure I am happy to release, but I am looking for some reviewers for the new edition.

The Forsaken Ones is a YA fantasy featuring: old family secrets, agents of evil, a questionable romance and - okay here is the blurb:

The Forsaken are the ones that Heaven has swept under the carpet. Those who fail to chose a side, and those who chose the wrong one. Nathaniel is Forsaken, he has been for a very long time, and frankly, he is bored. So when he hears of another battle approaching, he decides it's time to chose a side. He messed up once, and now is the time to tip the scales and put an end to the millennia of boredom, by any morally questionable means necessary. Having fallen in with the wrong side, his only way out is to become an agent of the dark forces, and this means obeying the boss. So when the boss wants someone's soul, you give it to him, and you be thankful for the experience. What you do not do, under any circumstances, is fall in love with the target. Especially not when the target is Anna Stone, that is to say, me. I never believed in heaven, or hell or any of it. Perhaps you do, perhaps you don't, but I know that either way, the world you see is not real. Let me tell you about the world you think you know.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Forsaken-Ones-G-Pointer-ebook/dp/B00FG57GS8/ref=sr_1_1?...

The ebook still has the old cover but the manuscript is updated. I am happy to give free copies in exchange for an honest review, so if there are any YA fantasy/urban fantasy readers out there, let me know if you are interested and I can get you a copy :)

Not since Mark Twain, WIlliam Shakespeare and Socrates produced their iconic works, has there been a piece of writing as salient as Rocket Randy. Rocket Randy is the remarkable story of a boy that becomes a man that, based on the reader’s point of view, may or may not have underwent a transformation that saw him become a rocket ship. It is a groundbreaking book that is sure to revolutionize the world in many ways. The young and exceptional rocket ship (or man, based on your point of view, of course) carries himself with such a natural charisma, and is such a talented and smooth operator, it’s impossible not to fall in love with him. Even moons and planets seem to not be exempt from his singular charm. Through his mastery of small talk and gestures, he befriends everyone he meets, and effortlessly commands his environment. Using his very unique mind, he thoroughly watches the television and gains information few could ever dream of absorbing, much less retaining. The government notices his special qualities and contacts the young rocket ship (or man) and is intent on training him for space travel. He eventually finds himself rocketing toward Ganymede. Upon arrival, he leads nine professional, and sometimes eccentric, astronauts on a highly successful mission and even ends up directly communicating with Ganymede herself, who seems to have an intense fondness for our hero. Rocket Randy leaves an outsized mark on history. Science Fiction and Science Reality lovers alike will fall head over heels for Rocket Randy. Absurdist Fiction and Absurdist Reality lovers will be unable to prevent themselves from becoming wholly engrossed in the story of the rocket ship (or man, based on your point of view, of course). Lovers of the Fantasy Genre as well as the Known Known Genre will find a home in the pages of Rocket Randy. Romance lovers and Indifference lovers will also ultimately end up feuding over who gets to be with Rocket Randy.

When Arturius wakes into a world he has no memory of, he very soon finds himself thrust into an endless cycle of war, death and Khaos. A company of exiles finds themselves on the perilous journey to seeks out the lost crowns of old and claim the mantle of the Empty Throne before darkness sets in across the realms. Pursued by an entity of twisted life and death, but who is more dangerous, the man or the myth.

In the ancient realm of Xovia lies a secret. A secret lost to the sins of man and beast that shall place the balance of life upon a knife’s edge. For sometimes when you stare deep into the abyss, the abyss stares back. And when the Empty Throne calls for its successor, its song shall not be left untarnished.

Hi everyone,

The ebook for my new sci-fi/mystery novel is now out.

Here's the blurb:

MUNKi

The winter her grandfather died, Cari Silvestri swapped her home town for a new life. But the past is not so easily outrun. Almost ten years on, Grandfather returns, his stolen memories repackaged by technology giant Merrywhile Industries as a slick marketing promo for their latest project: digital immortality. But when no one believes her, Cari’s search for proof and answers gradually draws her into a lawless digital underworld.

Mel Faith is also haunted by the past. Her journalistic career circling the drain, she finds herself still obsessed with the one piece she never filed – the tragic history of Michael Sommeil, grandson of Merrywhile’s founder. It’s a story with few leads and fewer prospects, but at whose heart – she’s sure – a secret still sits untold.

As their paths intertwine, the two women enter a world of masks and aliases, of mercenary hackers and corporate spies, and where, underlying it all, is the hunt for the Singularity – the point, both feared and hoped for, where AI will finally surpass human understanding, and nothing will ever again be the same.

A sci-fi novel set in the near future, MUNKi is an intricate cybergothic fairy tale, a philosophical exploration of memory, death and identity, and the ambiguous role that technology has come to play in all our lives.

Hi everyone, I've been writing regular reviews on LibraryThing for years and some people seem to enjoy them. You might also enjoy a science fiction novelette I've just self-published:

Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog

Available here on Amazon Kindle.

"He had the realisation that all have late in life; that armour does not work, after a lifetime spent forging it..."

He is the Galilean, a living legend: a man with nano-technology flowing in his blood. It means he does not even have to wear a spacesuit as he roams the alien moons of Jupiter.

They are his charges: a group of slush miners who have contracted him to guide them across the salt ice of Europa moon. But none of them can begin to perceive the turmoil taking place in that man's soul...

Inspired by the famous Caspar David Friedrich painting of the same name, Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog is a compelling 12,000-word novelette about the spacefaring future of our species and the enduring rifts in the human condition.

The story is just £0.99 on Kindle or free on Kindle Unlimited.

I hope you enjoy it, and don't be shy about providing feedback!

Hi everyone,

This week sees the release of "Pale Kings", a novella set in the same universe as my near-future sci-fi novel "MUNKi". It is currently available FREE as an ebook (or buy the paperback).

Here's the blurb:

PALE KINGS: A Merrywhile Novella

Dean’s got a bit of a problem.

Just three days into his stint minding the family shop and already there’s a jagged hole in the wall where the new smart-drugs vending machine used to be, courtesy of the local psychopathic heavy. But as the clock ticks down on his father’s return, hope appears in the guise of an enigmatic beauty, a girl stepped straight out of Dean’s dreams, proposing a wild and improbable plan that could just change all their lives – maybe even for the better.

Set in the same near-future as the author’s sci-fi novel MUNKi, Pale Kings is a sharp-witted and comical journey into the crazy world of contemporary fine art, the illicit potential of virtual reality gaming, and the neurotic susceptibilities of robotic guard dogs.

My 5th novel is The Next Fithian: An Ordinary Teen on a Strange, New World. This is overt Christian sci-fi, primarily for Young Adults. Here's the quick blurb:

***************************

Was this a new life — or a death sentence?

Plucked from an exploding Boeing 777, Rankin Johnson finds himself transported to an alternate
dimension. There he receives a rare title, a special power, and a mission he might not survive.

***************************

Here's the story behind the story:
Years ago, I received an unexpected phone call. Michael Ross, then-editor of Focus on the Family’s Breakaway magazine, asked me to brainstorm a big, bold adventure for teens: “Maybe fantasy. Maybe science fiction. Maybe both mixed together. I don’t know. Just make it big!”

Such an intriguing challenge! I accepted the assignment and developed a 3-part Christian sci-fi story, The Next Fithian. Those three installments reaped enthusiastic reactions from readers. However, after Part 3, that assignment was done. I moved on.

As years passed, my Fithian characters refused to let me forget them. They kept coming to mind, urging me to create an exhilarating, novel-length adventure for them. At first, I refused. I was giving priority to my novels about World War II airmen.

Gradually, though, I noticed something. Whenever I attended homeschool conferences to sign books for shoppers, teens visited my table to chat. What were those teen guys and girls wearing? T-shirts. Specifically, T-shirts portraying the Avengers, Spider-Man, Captain America, the Hulk . . . It was obvious what kinds of adventures these young adults were into. I began to wonder—what kind of uplifting novel could I pen for Christian fans of the Marvel universe?

In reply, my thoughts jumped back to The Next Fithian, a story brimming with action, adventure, danger, faith—plus a positive role model. This time, I yielded and began brainstorming ways to extend the original 5,400 words into an 80,000-word sci-fi novel with a Christian worldview. I didn’t want simply to create a gripping adventure. I wanted to give readers something unique. I wanted to touch their emotions, to make them laugh, to make them cry, to inspire them, and make them ponder things they had never considered before. I also wanted to transport them to another world where they might see better how to live in our own real world.

The new and improved book is not yet available in stores; please help make its release a success! Any reviewers, authors or bloggers interested can contact me through my profile.

Scorpid by Adam Ressler

When man toys with nature, nature strikes back.

Dr. Haylen Bennett, a genetic scientist at the Center for Biological Defense Research, and colleague Dr. Sarah Li, live quiet lives on a remote island base. When ordered to perfect an organic natural armor able to withstand .50 caliber AP rounds, it's just another job for them.

Suddenly their world is turned upside down when two agents from the Department of Defense show up and whisk them away on the adventure of a lifetime. Everything Haylen and Li have done at the lab is brought into question as they learn that the impenetrable armor they helped create provides protection to a 10-foot scorpion with a mouth that spouts armor-eating acid, a giant stinger and a bad attitude. When Dr. Li is viciously killed by the scorpion, Haylen vows vengeance, and teams up with lovely Sergeant Jen to take the monster down.

Filled with action, adventure, tragedy, comedy and a ton of heart, the story will hold you in its clutches from the very first page and carry you along on a rapid romp through the world of sci-fi satire.

Contains graphic violence, some mild profanity and a behind-closed-doors love scene. Not recommended for readers aged 13 and under.

Hi Everyone - and Happy New Year!

I've a new little story out - "Content Provider". Here's the blurb:

His memory is not what it was, it’s true – sometimes, it seems, he forgets things. But writing a whole book? Who would forget that?

But there are even reviews of it. In fact, two – no, three of them. And no one – not the book review sites, nor his publisher, nor even his wife – seems in the least bit concerned. Is he going crazy, then? Or is something else going on?

But the next one is already overdue, and though each day the screen stares blankly back at him, he must push on. For it’s not like this book is going to write itself – is it?

Content Provider is a satirical insight into the life of the jobbing writer, the enduring mysteries of married life, and what happens to our thoughts when there’s no one there to think them.

Since my birthday's coming up (I'll be 21 plus many, many, many days...), I'm running a price drop promotion on The Diamond Device, a light-hearted steampunk romp.

Alf Wilson resents the new diamond technology that cost him his factory job, especially as his clockwork leg bars him from army enrolment. He daren’t confess his unemployment to his overbearing mother. Desperate over the rent, he ends up in a detention cell with a hangover.

Impoverished Lord Richard Hayes maintains his expensive parliamentary seat by a mixture of charm and burglary. During a poorly planned break-in, he inadvertently witnesses a kidnapping. To cap it all, the police arrest him for the crime. At least he's using a fake identity. The real criminals make off with not just the professor who discovered diamond power, but her plans for a diamond-fuelled bomb.

When Rich encounters Alf in the neighbouring cell, he sees an opportunity to keep his noble reputation intact. He persuades Alf he's a secret agent who needs an assistant. This chance association will take them to the oddest locations. But law-abiding Alf’s first assignment? Break Rich out of jail.

The Diamond Device is 0.99 until the end of this month. Available in a selection of ebook stores at: https://books2read.com/mhthaung11

Hi All,
For the last two years I have been writing a series of fantasy stories about John and an alien AI Andy, who arrives when John is ten, and shares his brain. I hadn't planned on publishing, but having decided that others might like to read about John and Andy's adventures, I am soon going to be putting the first book out through Draft2digital.
Here is the blurb :-

Nobody expects to wake up to find an alien sharing their brain, but that is exactly what happened to John. Andy is an AI who can access the memories of long-dead hosts spanning hundreds of thousands of years.
With Andy as his guide, John, a geeky 10-year-old, morphs into Mr Popularity. Andy is sure his/her/its brain-mate needs to grow up fast and tough in order to confound the evildoers who have entangled his father in their horrific web. But Andy has no moral compass, no soul and scant regard for the law. Will the loss of his blissful innocence be a price worth paying for John to protect his family?
An Ancient Arrival is Book 1 of the John & Andy series, beginning in October 2010 near Reading, England. A sometimes amusing, sometimes dark fantasy saga featuring light-touch story-telling reminiscent of Three Men in a Boat but without the men, the boat, or the dog. It does include boys, girls, parents, teachers, and fascinating insights into food.

For updates and my newsletter, please have a look at my website :- www.nickduberley.com - it is just a holding page currently through which people can contact me, but a new version with drawings and an extract for Book 1 will be replacing it this week.

Not a new release or price drop promotion, but I'm super excited about "freshening up" my A Quiet Rebellion trilogy. I gave the prose a light polish and commissioned new covers, which I love!

What if paranormal powers were transmissible, but their recipients deemed a threat to society?
In the isolated realm of Numoeath, curse victims utilise their new powers in secret at the behest of the governing Council. Practitioners have to balance expediency against honour: a near-impossible demand. Meanwhile, the unknowing civilians who trust them inadvertently threaten the status quo.

In A Quiet Rebellion: Guilt, convoy captain Jonathan has a guilty secret: he killed a traveller who was cursed while under his protection. The killing wasn't to defend the innocent, but to hide governmental employment of curse victims—like Jonathan—who have developed paranormal powers.
To assuage his guilt, he bends the rules to help another, younger victim. His growing fatherly affection for her leaves him vulnerable to pressure from an unethical researcher. Can he navigate the bureaucratic web, do his duty and still keep his conscience intact?

A Quiet Rebellion: Guilt (Book 1) is available at: http://getbook.at/AQR1
A Quiet Rebellion: Restitution (Book 2) is available at: http://getbook.at/AQR2
A Quiet Rebellion: Posterity (Book 3) is available at: http://getbook.at/AQR3

It is my pleasure to introduce my first and probably not my last book, Unknown Son!

It's about a young man who is found in the woods by the local baron and taken back to the castle, where he tries to remember what happened and tries to live again, but is soon forced to run for his life again.

It's mostly funny, sometimes scary, and if you're over 80, it's downright horror. :)

Give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it.
If not, well, it's all going to be over soon... like, seriously, it's a short book.

I'll gladly send the book in exchange for a review, but I'm not from the US and I don't have a place to store it, so only the e-book.

I hope, you will like it!
Here goes the blurb:

Have you ever woken up in the middle of a forest,
not knowing where and when you are,
why you are there,
or, you know, who you are in the first place?
Yeah, me neither...

But if you add a bunch of nutters,
put them in an unknown land,
mix it with a little bit of blood
(or a lot of it, depending on your preference),
shake it all up, and voilà,
you got yourself the story of this book.
In essence. Or you can simply read it.
Your choice.

Hi everyone, let me share my debut Sci-Fi technothriller novel:

AN ALIEN ARTIFACT. AN ACCIDENTAL DISCOVERY. A LOOMING NUCLEAR APOCALYPSE.
Art is a computer geek and retro electronics aficionado who just wants to be left alone. When he stumbles upon an alien artifact, he can't help but try and find out its purpose. Instead, he finds himself in over his head, in the midst of what might just turn out to be the end of the world, and nobody except him knows the truth. A truth that certain factions don't want to get out - at any cost.

It's not paranoia when self-driving cars are out to get you. Can Art survive the hunt, and maybe save the world in the process?
Progress Report is a near-future technothriller for fans of Ready Player One, Daemon, and Bobiverse. It’s packed with action, humor, and a sense of the profound that will linger long after you've turned the last page.
