How many books do I need
to-hoo read
before I get through
my to-do?
The answer my friend
is it's never gonna end
My pile grows bigger
um...Something rhyming end.
So how big is your pile? Do you keep count? Do you ignore it till it falls? Have you thinned it based on lackluster reviews or loss of interest?
How do you tame these piles???

Two bookshelves crammed with books yet to be read; piles of books on the floor; and I just bought about 20 more at the FOTL booksale; also the Kindle Wish List has a bunch queued up just waiting for me to hit the "buy" button. No idea how many that makes; too scary to count them up. The books bought at last year's sale tended toward Urban Fantasy; this year it was mostly Historical Fiction. I'm nothing if not eclectic in my reading tastes. Also, I have a bunch of new children's novels I want to read (for work, of course). And then, of course, there are the favorites that are begging me to revisit.

My dream home will have an entire room devoted to my soon-to-be-revived collection. Dozens of ideas for "libraries" are pinned on Pinterest. Forced to downsize 7 years ago, my collection now has to be contained in the afore-mentioned 2 bookshelves. Although, now that I think of it, some overflow is in the living room entertainment center; and a bunch of quilting books are on a shelf in the sewing room. Husband has a large shelf in his home office for HIS books, most of which are work-related. I'm debating whether or not those books will be allowed in my library...

Can I just say I'm so glad it's not just me? I sort donations at the library and I'm supposed to toss the less than stellar stuff. I'm not discouraged by torn covers or stained pages, so a lot of it misses the recycling bin and follows me home. :o)

Pile? Singular? Surely you jest! ;)
Seriously, I don't keep track. There are too many! I used to be good about keeping them all together in one bookcase, but over time, they've spread across multiple shelves and rooms...(I think they're breeding...shhh)

I just organized mine -- it's all on one bookshelf, sorted into galleys and regular books. The galleys are sorted by release date, and the regular books by date I entered them into LibraryThing. I even got rid of a few!

I'm actually surprised that my TBR has lessened a bit more than unusual. Good thing that my birthday is next week!

At least, having married a fellow reader, I can rest assured that every book in the house has been read at least once, if not by both of us.

I only organize my TBR in my catalog (350 at the moment, which seems low). Although, a lot of them are under my bed now, because roll-away storage was the only way to bring parts of my library home from storage. There may have been a couple books I've discarded without reading, but it doesn't happen often. My attitude is generally that if I was interested in it at some point, I'll be interested in it again. I've proclaimed 2016 The Year of the TBR Pile, to focus on books I own and not recommendations from friends or new releases.

Another visit to the annual FOL booksale earlier this month netted me 5 paper grocery bags of books. Since we bought our retirement home (being rented now), which has a room off the living room designated "the library" I'm doing my best to buy books to put on the as yet nonexistent shelves. We won't be moving for at least 5 years, so I'll have plenty of time to add to the collection. Husband just sighs and goes with it. I have to find a place to store them in the meantime. When books are priced at $1.00 each, you just have to fill those bags.

Massive. I've not been good about adding my new books in. I've made a small dent this year, but not enough.
