New Thread Time!

I just finished Edward Trencom's Nose: a Novel of History, Dark Intrigue, and Cheese. The title says it all. It was a good book that handled the occasional violence in a way I could (mostly) deal with. I appreciate that in a book.

Oh, I am so remiss in my manners! Thank you so much, Ava and Christina and Connie and MissWatson and rabbitprincess! I am still reading, but I haven't figured out how to balance everything yet, so I'm not here very often. Guess why?

I got a job and went back to work part-time. This would be sad (except for the money part) if it wasn't for the fact that I'm working around books all day, so I'm happy after all.

With any spare time, I'm frantically listing the books into the library. I enjoy doing it, but I want it to be done, if you know what I mean. I have 76 more boxes to go.

My most recent read, though, was a failure. I'd bought David Sedaris's book Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk because in flipping through it I found the illustrations precious. Whoops! Big mistake on my part! NOT the right book for me!

I'm going to go read a nice, calm, children's book now.

>9 Merryann: Congrats on the job!! Glad that you get to work around books all day :)

Also.. had you read other David Sadaris? If not, give him a chance still -- Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk is not reflective... And I agree that it wasn't amazing :P

Meryann-Yah o the job front!! Ahh to be around books all day...
And well done on bypassing your reading goal! You go girl!!

And lastly on those 76 boxes- your nearly there- you have accomplished so much already! These will be done. Just not as quickly as you would like!

Enjoy your job and happy reading!

Hope you're reading something peaceful and beautiful!

Hello Everyone! Thanks for the messages, LauraBrook and Ava (that's an adorable picture, Ava. Makes me smile.). And LadyBookworth, and jen.e.moore, and Connie, and Tess, and Miss Watson. I read your messages awhile back and should have answered then but had a fit of shyness from being gone so long. Sorry.

I miss being here the way I used to, but am indeed still reading. Right now I am being tremendously impressed by the first book in Lemony Snicket's 'All the Wrong Questions' series. I never read the 'Series of Unfortunate Events' books and so I am just now learning that Snicket is a very skilled writer!

I will update my list and add to our group ROOT total by the end of the first week in December, I promise.

I am so excited to see it's SantaThing time. Already! Last year at SantaThing time I was so brand new in the LT community that I don't think I'd even ever posted a message. Everything here had that 'brand-new-I-feel-awkward' feeling to it.

How much changes in one short, very quickly passing, year!

As soon as I learn how to successfully manage time with family, and working, and cataloging my poor books that are desperate to get out of their boxes, I will be back here and catch up again, because this ROOT group is a joyous place to be. I know that the social skills I practiced here have made making friends at my new job much smoother for me.

For that, and for a bunch of other reasons, I appreciate you all and miss you and look forward to getting back one day hopefully soon, reading everyone's threads and seeing what I've been missing.

Happy ROOTING! :)

Happy Thanksgiving, Tess and Ava and Everyone! (If you aren't American, I'll share some of my Americanness with you for the purpose of being celebratory today.)

I am getting started reading all the threads I missed when I was elsewhere. So much good reading going on!

I just finished The Castle Corona by Sharon Creech. A beautifully illustrated book, and quite satisfying read, although I found myself in the odd position of wishing I could have edited it...there were just a few loose threads I would have liked to had tied off. Still, it was an interesting read and it made me want to be a better person, a nice accomplishment for a work of fiction.

Hi Marianne. I can totally understand that time away from LT is sometimes necessary. I'm as always struggling with keeping up with threads. So no pressure at all. Just keep us posted regularly so we now you are doing fine!

Hi Maryann! I'm just now coming back after a two-month hiatus (we moved into our new home and have been doing a lot of improvement, with that, class and work I've only read three books in two months, ugh!), so I totally get not having as much time as you'd like to be on here. No pressure for me, just wanted to stop by and say hi. I'm glad you're making friends at work!

Ava, Connie, Terri, Christina, Laura, and everyone...you are all so great! Imagine my surprise as I pop in here to update my numbers before we run out of year and see all these lovely well-wishes and pictures! I am so surrounded by kindness; surely I am one of the most fortunate people in the world! Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to you all!

It was a bad idea of mine to try to stack up the read books and add them all at once. The stacks migrated elsewhere and I may not find them all before the year is over, but I updated my list at the top with some I can add in to the group total.

Happy New Year!
