No group about gaming is complete without a discussion about Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Who here has read it, and what did you think?

Well, it was entertaining. Probably only gelled so well with me because my formitive years were during the 80's. That was kinda the point, no?

It had that strong nostalgic vibe. I think some of the plot twists in the book were just not, but the ambiance of the tale really brings on the desire to listen to 80's rock ballads and look for stonewashed jeans. I wasn't sure if the movie would be great or if it would be Hitchhiker's Guide all over again. I did actually like the movie, I mean, the director was perfect... I felt like watching Last Starfighter while drinking some cherry 7up or new Coke. What did you think of Armada? I didn't think it was as strong in character and vision. Anyhow, let's see how it is to have a conversation where we only comment every few years or so, yes? It is a wee bit like time travel after all. If you loved Ready Player One, then what other books would you recommend? Did you love it because games were a big part of your childhood? Cuz if not, then you had no childhood...I still have my original Gameboy. With 3rd party solar panels for power ups. Way back then it was considered freakish to see me at a campground playing a video game. Now, not so much.
