I personally find foreign policy efforts by the Roosevelt administration from 1939-1942 to be fascinating.

Two noteworthy books in this subject area are now available.

No End Save Victory: How FDR Led the Nation into War by David Kaiser

David Kaiser's book is a combination of excellent research and prose regarding Franklin Roosevelt's decisive impact on United States foreign affairs before the nation's entry into World War II. David Kaiser has taught history at Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, the Naval War College, and Williams College. He is the author of seven books, including The Road to Dallas: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy.

The Mantle of Command: FDR at War, 1941-1942 by Nigel Hamilton

Nigel Hamilton's book covers the time period from August of 1941 (Atlantic Conference) to November of 1942 (Operation Torch). Nigel Hamilton is a bestselling and award-winning biographer of President John F. Kennedy, General Bernard "Monty" Montgomery, and President Bill Clinton, among other subjects. Hamilton is a Senior Fellow in the McCormack Graduate School, University of Massachusetts-Boston.

Both books are perfect companions because the Hamilton work naturally follows the Kaiser work.

It is my understanding that Nigel Hamilton is working on a second volume regarding Franklin Roosevelt's war leadership that will cover 1943-45.

Another excellent book in the same subject area is Threshold of War: Franklin D. Roosevelt and American Entry into World War by Waldo Heinrichs. This 1988 title was probably the first scholarly and sourced work about the United States entry into World War II.
