A friend of mine in Cornwall who's originally from Yorkshire recently went on her own little Holtby pilgrimage while up there visiting her ailing mother. She's coming back fired up with all things Holtby! We've considered reviving the Winifred Holtby Society (which is now defunct) but realise that will take a lot of work, not to mention getting permission from Holtby's estate, etc. So for now, we're settling with a Winifred Holtby Appreciation Page on Facebook. I've invited some of you, but if you're a Holtby fan who doesn't know me on Facebook, please 'like' the page!

Like, like, like the page. Thank you ladies.
Helen, do you happen to know why the WHS went 'defunct'?

Not really, no. I suppose like a lot of things, it just ran its course. But there does seem to be a lot more interest in Holtby these days so I hope the new Society is a success!

That would be wonderful. I hope so as well. :-)

Just popped a like on the FB page. I first read South Riding when I was at school in the early 80s, going on to read the other novels as VMC published them. SR remains one of my favourite novels. I remember visiting the church and seeing her grave (with flowers) 20+ years ago, never thinking there would be a resurgence of interest.
