A group with no age, gender, ethnicity barriers, including implied. Possible?

Hi.
I'm a veteran of several clubs, which I've mainly enjoyed, over the years. I'd like to start a new club (in Jacksonville, Florida, which is definitely red state, but has more diversity than you might think) that appeals to readers irrespective of all the stuff in the subject line. Has anyone belonged to a successful one one that's genuinely mixed in gender, age, and ethnicity? If so, what was the theme? I'm thinking memoirs, current events (nothing too political; barrier problems, maybe non-technical broad-appeal books about business and the economy??) I personally incline toward literary fiction for my own reading, but groups with that orientation are NOT diverse in my experience.
Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks in advance.
