What Are You Reading? December 2013

How on earth is it December already?

I'm in the middle of Never Fade, the sequel to The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, which is super. I recently completed The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, which was also fantastic. If you liked Barry Lyga's I Hunt Killers (though really the sequel to that book, The Game, is more apropos), but want something less gory, this is the book for you.

I thought The Fifth Wave was excellent, and am really looking forward to the second installment. I'm reading Altered, the second book in Gennifer Albin's Crewel World trilogy and Panic, the very action-y new one by Lauren Oliver.

Finally read Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief. A really fun book!

Ditto to all the 5th Wave love and I always love hearing that people love Megan Whalen Turner's books, because that is one of my favorite series of all times. SaraHope, if you loved The Thief, just wait until you read the next books, as each installment is progressively better, IMHO.

I've been worried because this group has gotten so quiet!!

I'm embarrassed to say I've had Un Lun Dun for more than five years and have never been able to get through it. The genre is right up my alley--I don't know. Determined to make it through this time!!

#6 Cailiosa -- I can't wait! I only seem to hear great things about this series. I don't know why it took me so long to get around to starting it!

I am currently reading Divergent. I like the sparse writing style. Normally I do not enjoy dystopian books, but I am liking this one.

Just finished Advent by James Treadwell and am about to dive into its sequel, Anarchy. Advent was amazing--highly recommended.

I just read Pantomime by Laura Lam, which I thought was excellent. I enjoyed the world she creates, with its Victorian-style society living amongst mysterious alien artifacts, and the circus setting was nice too. The sequel should be interesting.

I have The demon's covenant, Sacred scars and Crashed lined up to read this month, as I'm trying to get these series off my Tbr pile.

I'm just about to finish Antigoddess by Kendare Blake, which started off a bit slow or I was really distracted as I attempted to read it (I suspect the latter), but then it got going and I really began to love it.

I just started The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr . . . enjoying it so far.

Rose Under Fire by the author of Code Name Verity. So good!

I'm reading Food for the Gods by Karen Dudley. It's a hoot but not YA.

Hoping to soon start Horde by Ann Aguirre.

I just finished up The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud, which was just the right amount of scary to insure that I would be able to sleep at night, with humor, adventure, and mystery thrown in for good measure. Such a fun book and I can't wait to catch up with Lockwood & Co. in the next book in the series.

Right now, I'm reading an ARC of The Falconer by Elizabeth May. Think Victorian steampunk Scotland mashed up with a spunky heroine hunting down homicidal faeries. It's great fun so far.

I've started The False Prince, which I'm enjoying well enough so far--am interested to see where it goes. I usually have all good intentions of reading over the holidays and then barely read at all, so who knows if I'll even finish this by January.

I really enjoyed The False Prince when I read it.

At the moment i'm re-reading The Book Thief, i forgot how emotional it was

I just finished reading book three of Kerstin Gier's Precious Stone trilogy (Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Emerald Green). I'm really more of a fan of character-centric books, so I had to suppress my urge to roll my eyes when the main characters were professing love to one another after knowing each other for all of a week or two, and I couldn't really figure out why they were in love, but gosh darn it, these books were so much fun that I couldn't bring myself to care too much. They had a few of my favorite things, namely time-travel, secret societies, family drama, and humor, which helped me get past the typical 'he loves me, he loves me not' teen angst and the bucket-loads of tears generally shed over that sort of thing.

Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief series is one of my favorites!

I received an ARC of this novel. Loved it! I'm a pianist and a huge fan of Sara Zarr.

I haven't actually found time to read any of the YA books I meant to this month, but I am reading Fangirl on my kindle, which is awesome.
