Any manga artists out there? I've begun learning with a teacher but was curious if there were any manga books/guides people have used for learning to draw, etc.

Hm, not really. The best guides I've seen recommend not using "how to draw manga" books and the like, but to practice things like drawing in general until you're comfortable, then start stylizing your work. Reading a lot of different kinds of comics helps, too, to give you a more flexible range of inspiration, so that your drawings aren't too cardboard and static.

Yeah, hair can be troublesome!

I recommend starting from life - if you're just doodling, and on the bus or something, try to draw someone sitting across from you. Try it detailed or simple, cross hatch or shaded... Then as you get the hang of it, you can do the stylistic effects.

Also, there are tons of ways to draw hair in a cartoon style. Certain manga/anime styles are really weird and extra unrealistic, while others are simpler and more natural feeling. Just like with the drawing styles. I'll be happy if the super "anime" style goes away, with all the spikes. It's too weird...and, looking at my collection, I don't even own any manga that uses it!
