First published in 1975, the prototypical fiction work on sustainability is of course Ecotopia from UC-Berkeley professor Ernest Callenbach. On the back cover of a Banyan Tree Books edition of Ecotopia, Ralph Nader notes: "None of the happy conditions in Ecotopia are beyond the technical or resource reach of our society."
Following Callenbach's death in 2012, his article written in anticipation of his demise was published online:
