Many of you know about the battle that Morphy's (http://www.librarything.com/profile/Morphidae) husband is waging with cancer. If you can help them with their mounting medical bills please do so.

Thank you!

Just to give credit where it's due, maggie set up the donation site, and I cribbed the thread from the Green Dragon group.

I am delighted to say that as of 4:45 pm, LibraryThing time, we have raised $1,735.00

Whoo hoo !!!!!!!

***Shoots of confetti cannon***

That is about 35% of the goal we set. Can we each post a link with another friend of Morphy's who might not have seen this thread? Only if you are comfortable, but it would be appreciated, I imagine.

Credit wherever, I'm glad we're doing this.

Thank you, Karen and Jim, for spearheading an effort that keeps all our book-buying privileges in appropriate perspective. When it all comes down to it, this is what matters.

Morphy and MrMorphy, if/when you see this, know that you are loved for your generous spirits and your wonderful sense of humor and care. We hope this small bit helps.

The response has been so much more than we could have ever dreamed. It is awe-inspiring. Thank you all so much. I simply don't have the words.

On a slightly different note, there has been some discussion of increasing the fund raising effort's goal to $7500 so that the medical bills through the summer will be covered. I have not seen much response to the question of "what do you think?" so I'll be bold and say: sure, why not. There is nothing wrong with shooting high! Or maybe, even better, Yes, let's shoot high and gain high!

I don't know if I really am ready to be the cheer leader here, but I think unless I hear something to the contrary during this weekend I'll increase the goal on Monday.

We have raised $2495.00 so far. That is just great! How impressive is that, what we can do together. Thank you, all of you.

Mark, this is totally a group effort and the thanks are due to all, and everyone! The little effort I put in at the beginning was nothing. I am humbled by the power of a group who care about each other. (-:

I agree, Karen .. we should raise the goal and continue this through the summer as well. *raising my pom-poms and doing some high kicks*

Oh, great! We can start a cheer squad! Cameling's going to teach the routines! Who is in?

I'll probably go raise the goal now, rather than wait, there has been no controversy.

We have $2810 in contributions today; the goal has been increased to $7500; and the "deadline" moved to Ma7 31, 2013!

Whoo hoo. Look at that cheer squad! That is a lot of energy. Thanks for the Band-Aids, too, they may be very handy!

Well, the early rush seems to have passed and now comes the slow one-step-at-a-time progress towards our goal.

As of this morning, we still have $2,864 of the $7,500 goal we set. This is the consequence of 43 supporters. Thanks everyone.

I saw a note from Morphy on FB this morning which said they are very happy that MrMorphy has a new job, full time, not temp, etc. etc. However, since the eye cancer is an existing condition, prior to his employment, the new health insurance may not be covering it. The expenses for treatment and monitoring are still on Mr. and Mrs. Morphy.

So, we are so happy to be at nearly 1/2 of the need but still need to be digging in our pockets and purses to see if we can find some more support to share with them.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

39SqueakyChu
Apr 20, 2013, 12:41 pm

A good note for the future, though: Beginning in 2014 under Obamacare, insurance companies will no longer be able to exclude anyone with a pre-existing medical condition from coverage.

40maggie1944
Apr 24, 2013, 9:51 pm

That will be lovely!

Meanwhile, I'll bump this up, so folks can see it again, or for the first time.

I want everyone to know we have raised $3500. It is not all that is needed, nor does it hit our goal of $7,500; however, it is remarkable! Wonderful! Amazing! and I am so proud of this group of generous caring people!

Awesomesauce and Fantastitoast! I still don't have words to express my amazement and gratitude to the people who have so generously donated money to someone they only really know from words on a screen. Thank you.

It's May, it's May, it's the merry month of May

And we have not seen any additional donations since April. We now have $3510 + some small checks sent directly to Morphy.

I do not want to bug people but I know that Morphy's estimate of $7500 is real, and we've raised about half of that. She and her husband do not have the resources to handle this on their own. I thought that I could probably give a small donation at the beginning of each month. Is that something you could do?

We are looking at the end. The fundraiser stops on May 31st. If you can dig deep and contribute a little bit more, please do that. WE are at $4,105 and with a few more small donations we could make it a nice round number like $4,250 or $4,500. Can we do that?

Thank you all for all that you have given. This has been so good and I know both Mr Morph and Morph, herself, are very grateful.

Your generosity is overwhelming (MrMorphy's word) and humbling (my word.) I don't know what else to say. You've taken what has been a very stressful time and made it much less so. I was speaking with a friend about LT the other night. He was reluctant to continue with LT because it cost money. I told him about the fund-raiser and that LT was my online heart. It truly is.
