I’m searching for a book I read over 12 years ago. Sometime around or before 2001.
What I can remember:
It centers on a young girl (between 10-13 yrs old) that is upset that her father is getting remarried. She keeps thinking about her mother and how she wants to see her again. She repeatedly tells people that she’s going to visit her mother. After running away, she takes a long bus ride and goes to a cemetery. I think there is a part where the bus driver asks if she's sure this is where she want to be. The end reveals the reason she’s been so upset throughout the entire book is that her mother is dead.

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech? She doesn't travel alone and I don't recall her getting on a bus (though a bus certainly features into the ending), but other than that I think the details fit what you describe.
