Read some wonderful books in 2012. Was not able to visit, connect or post and sort of dropped off of everyone's radar. I really dislike not being able to be more active with the friends here that I care for so very much. (Best book of last year, The Song of Achilles: A Novel by Madeline Miller. Read July 26, 2012

I got a book to read and review from the November Early Reviewers list, Farewell, Dorothy Parker written by Ellen Meister. It is a shot in the arm and maybe a kick in the butt, too. I'll settle for life affirming, today.

I have started it, and so far so good.

Best book so far this year, Ancient Light by John Banville. Thrilling writing, IMHO. Read January 10, 2013

Another, that took me a while to connect to the main character, is Flight Behavior: A Novel by Barbara Kingsolver. Much more was there at the end of the book than was offered at the beginning. Read January 16, 2013

I had to return this one before I finished it, so will not count it toward my seventy-five until I do. The Journal of Best Practices: A Memoir of Marriage, Asperger Syndrome, and One Man's Quest to Be a Better Husband written by David Finch. This man loves his wife and family, trust me.

Another book I have to finish ( it prolly weighs two or three pounds ..) is Artic Dreams by Barry Holstun Lopez. Amazing, profound and fascinating to me.

Starting the climb up the mountain of the year 2013. Hopefully not too many washouts, giant pot holes and falling rocks on the path as I climb. Join me.

Thanks for the welcome back, Luxx, drneutron, and kidzdoc. I've missed you one and all!

Today I am here to report that I finished the ARC of Farewell, Dorothy Parker authored by Ellen Meister. It was so good to read. The story is captivating, and while it certainly has the wide thread of following the interaction between the protagonist and the ghost of Dorothy Parker, it is in no way silly nor does it come across as too contrived. I laughed out loud often while reading and found that I had to put it aside when I read in bed as I startled my husband more than once out of a deep sleep as I was so amused by the dialogue, which was, as you can imagine sharp and clever.

On to the next book, now.

Please stop by and see what I am reading, and I will hope to return the visit to your threads in the near future!

Welcome back! There are two books now that sound good to me-Farewell, Dorothy Parker and the Barbara Kingsolver book. I am listening to Animal, Vegetable, Miracle right now on audiobook and I really enjoy it (this is my second time) because I think she is a good reader with her soft, breathy voice. Not great for crime novels, etc. but just right for her subject matter.

Hello there!! SOOOOO nice to see you around these parts. I look forward to many more visits here. I have Kingsolver's Flight Behavior on the docket for later in the year with my bookgroup. Hugs!

Thanks for the kind words of welcome ... All of you.

I'm hoping to increase my use of LT this year. One idea I have is to link signing in each workday morning with watching the Today Show starting at 7:00 AM. I keep up with current events & most of the time enjoy the silliness & camaraderie of the cast. I do miss Anne Curry, though. She's doing a segment tonight at 10:00 PM, on Rock Center in which she spends time with Quvenzhane Wallis the Oscar nominated actor who starred in Beasts of the Southern Wild. An amazing young person saturated through & through with acting talent & intelligence.

Currently reading The Odyssey of KP2 - An Orphan Seal, A Marine Biologist, And The Fight to Save a Species. I see no results for this book & will accept guidance to the instructions on how to add a book to the ginormous database. Any help you guys?

Editing to give those interested the ISBN number for the book title listed in this post. ISBN 978-1-59420-339-8.

Ruthie- Great to see you back! We have missed you. As you can tell, we are as chatty and obsessive as always! Somethings, refuse to change.
I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which I also listened to on audio.

I'm on my way out the door to ANOTHER appointment with one of my doctors. This gentleman if similar to Sherlock Holmes in his approach to finding out what is going on and how my body got to this state of affairs. He is also very caring toward me and his other patients from my brief observations in his office.

Not able to read right now, because the pain is too severe, I am too worn out or I am at the doctor's office!!! (Slight exaggeration). I hope to stop by and then I find the bed calling my name more "alluringly" than the Internet and all of you here at LT.

Off to see the wizard. Hope he comes up with something to try that will help.

With love to each of you and ALL of you that love books, reading an moi.

Ruthie
