I thought it might be a good idea to have a discussion thread for the latest Thursday Next book, The Woman Who Died a Lot. I read it a few days ago, but haven't written my review of it yet -- overall, though, my opinion of it is favorable. What about the rest of you? Have you read it yet? What did you think?

I really enjoyed it – especially the way that Fforde is showing us Thursday getting older and feeling the physical consequences of her adventures. I would have liked a bit more attention given to the whole smiting thing, and I wasn’t entirely happy with the enormous (and maybe a bit generic?) reversion of Goliath to Super Evil Villain-hood again. And it definitely feels like it’s intended to have another book (at least) to complete some of the story lines (also my main problem with One of Our Thursdays is Missing) – another book or three is great, but a little less overt in the “tune in next book to find out how this plot twist is resolved!” would have been nice.

Good thought foggi.

Also read a few days ago. Definetly not the highlight of the series. SOmewhere along the way it's lost the quirky lighthearted tone, and gone for a more stodgy predictable humour. Less puns less audaciousness I felt. I don't like time travel plots, and this seemed to be repeating many of the ideas of the first books, just aged a bit.

#2 there is Dark Reading Matter will be out next year I think.

I did enjoy the whole smiting episode humor and the way several pieces came together, but I do miss the book word where I found the inside jokes and the metawriting aspects both humorous and interesting.

I missed BookWorld too, but I think the next Thursday Next book is going to be all about BookWorld :-)
