A nice book-related clue word. Is Crambo's word book-related? Maybe, maybe not!

Oops.
Not: codex

Double-sided printing, or a style of apartment?
A response to a stimulus, or a Steven Gould novel?
A diacritic?

No, no and I don't think so.

Could an unspecified member of the protagonist family in The Grapes of Wrath be called
__ __ __ __ "__"?

__ __ __atious as travel may be, the VERB __ __ __
comes from Latin, but NOT from the the Latin "Vectus" (traveling, carried, riding).

On 4, 8

Youʻre right that "Joad ʻXʻ " was the guess.
I donʻt get how it "doesnʻt even fit". (It was pretty much just a joke entry). Did you mean it has to be ONE word, not a phrase? But it will probably one of the fthat rhymes BOTh syllables.

Good morning, Crambologists. Are we all sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.

>9 Jenni_Canuck: Me, me! I'm the fairest of them all. Also, I don't have that good a mirror.
>10 jpyvr: Pontifex Maximus, didn't Russell Crowe play... No, wait.
>11 Jim53: I admit that I only got this after pushing some schoolboy thoughts aside.
>12 rolandperkins: "Doesn't fit" referred to "Oakie" and the number of spaces you left. And you're right, we're only going to rhyme the last syllable again.

"Sitting comfortably" in #13 suggests this decorous word for an indecorous body part; it's from the same Latin root as the word "petard," whose etymology Jim cited in the first Crambo round I ever played.

The closest I can think of in sitting down related words are buttocks or cheeks, neither of which rhyme very well. Will keep thinking on this one.
