betterthanchocolate, I'm continuing your Hong Kong conversations here.

Three days after the Tiananmen Massacre, I decided to leave China, but the only flight I could get out of Bejing was to Hong Kong. Foreigners were jamming the airport, fighting to get out because civil war was feared.

It was to be my first introduction to this city. After coming out of war-ravaged Beijing, I felt blessed to land in Hong Kong. The taxi drivers tied a black strip of cloth on their antennas; a lot of people wore black arm bands. Hong Kong was crisp and clean, the people confident, compared to frightened citizens in rubble-strewn Bejing, which even in the best of times was dirty and the buildings in shambles.

The biggest and most amazing difference I saw was the light which shone in the eyes of the Hong Kong Chinese.

betterthanchocolate--today is the 10-year anniversary of the Hong Kong turnover. Can you give us any impressions of the city? I'm reading the news reports, but would like to have hear about your experience of the day.
