I just received Kingsolver's new book Animal, Vegetable, Miricale about her family's year long adventure using only local food sources. Have any of you read this yet? I just started it - the same week that my first delivery from my local Green Thumb CSA arrived. Green onions, sorrel, kale, dandilion, spinach, arugula!

I haven't read it, but I'm interested in hearing what you think as you go along. Keep me posted!

florahistora: I'm three chapters into it and finding it delightfully candid. Unfortunately I'm reading a borrowed copy and am dying to scribble in the margins and underline key passages - so I need to go out and buy my own copy. I'll probably be using it in my sustainable agriculture class next year and will likely refer to it with my student farm group as well.

There are so many wonderful books out there now on this topic that, along with Coming Home to Eat, Fields of Plenty, This Organic Life, Eat Here, and (of course) The Omnivore's Dilemma, this book is helping to build a very important literature in support of more local food production and distribution.

I haven't picked up The 100-Mile Diet yet, but that one also sounds intriguing.
