So.... I have a better idea than this... in fact, a pretty epic one... Anyone that would like to know it... If I can get at least, hmmm, ten people wondering/asking what it is, I'll tell XD
But for now, just say which house you think you'd be in!
And don't get all mad at me for making this! I'm a total newb, and if I wasn't supposed to... I didn't know....
~Tabby, a Slytherin (Hufflepuff just didn't seem to fit my online personality... just my RL one...)

2TooBrightToShine
Mag 16, 2011, 6:05 pm

I'm actually a bit of a Slytherpuff, both puffball and slythie... lol, I have, like, a split personality XD

We may have had a thread like this before -- but you're certainly welcome to make a new one! It's nice to see new people posting, and we hope you'll stick around. :-)

I identify most strongly with Ravenclaw, though the online tests sometimes put me in Hufflepuff.

I have an interesting idea... if it works, I'll stick around...

I'm a Griffindor, strong on Courage but not always thinking it thru first.

6TooBrightToShine

*Gryffindor :P

(Sorry, I'm such a grammer Nazi, whenever someone spells something wrong I correct it... especially Harry Potter stuff...)

Don't take this the wrong way, but does anyone else think Gryff is overrated?

I'm not exactly sure where I would be. At lot of Harry Potter "what house are you in?" quizzes tell me either Gryfinndor or Hufflepuff, which I'm okay with either one as long I'm not in Slytherin, I don't want to be associated with someone like Malfoy...LOL just kidding but no Slytherin for me please.

9katelisim
Mag 16, 2011, 8:09 pm

Probably Ravenclaw, and a few online quizzes agreed. But quizzes have also put me Gryffindor and Slytherin. . . . just depends on my mood. (I get the same way with the 'which side brain are you' quizzes. I'm about 50/50, so my daily inclinations tip the scales.)

Which Hogwarts house will you be sorted into?

I think I was Hufflepuff with a Gryfinndor close in second then Ravenclaw and Slytherin with a 0..lol.

13kirbyowns
Mag 17, 2011, 10:53 am

According to that poll, I'm spending a third of my time in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. I scored 13 for each house, and a measly 7 for Slytherin.

Ravenclaw with Hufflepuff as a very close second. Typically how I get sorted.

Armadilowood house. Party of one.

Although i'm also intrigued by Slytherpuff.

And what was the epic idea? Don't make me ask 9 more times...

20pollysmith
Mag 18, 2011, 11:33 am

I have found that you can manipulate those tests to be put where ever you want

21varielle
Mag 18, 2011, 11:46 am

Yes, I just tweaked mine and ended up in Ravenclaw. Maybe it's like asking the hat where you want to be put. :)

22jugglingpaynes
Modificato: Mag 18, 2011, 3:24 pm

#20: Frankly, wasn't that the whole point of what Harry did? He fit into Slytherin, but he wanted to be placed in Gryffindor. Which means I can be in Ravenclaw if I want to. :oP

ETA: Oh, see? I should have read varielle's before I commented. What varielle said. :o)

23Theamwriter
Mag 18, 2011, 3:26 pm

Well actually in Harry Potter's case, he had that scar so it was like he had a piece of or a connection with Lord Voldemort, which we later found out about, so in that sense he fit into Slytherin. But I think they were right in placing him in Gryfinndor.

24TooBrightToShine
Mag 18, 2011, 5:25 pm

#19~I just might... :P

Maybe I'll tell you... If you bug me enough lol

25TooBrightToShine
Mag 18, 2011, 5:28 pm

Besides, Harry isn't nearly evil, awesome, or good enough to be a Slytherin lol... (I'm not a huge fan of Harry himself, in case you couldn't figure that out....)

Though, if anything to connect me with Voldie and Slyth, it would be Parseltongue (no I can't speak to snakes (obviously...), but I understand them, and just plain love them :)

26jugglingpaynes
Mag 18, 2011, 5:56 pm

#23: Though he had a connection to Voldemort, I think it was more his ambition and need to prove himself that the hat thought he would do well there. Slytherins are not necessarily evil, it's more that they are cunning and go after what they want. They like having power, and power corrupts.

Thanks to catbastet for helping me sort out my thoughts and check references so that I could say this coherently. :o)

27Theamwriter
Modificato: Mag 18, 2011, 6:06 pm

That is a valid point. But I sometimes wonder had he not had that connection to Voldemort, would the Sorting Hat have even thought about putting him in Slytherin?

31ohdani
Mag 18, 2011, 9:39 pm

#28- thank you for the literal LOL!

And I have taken a bunch of those online tests and usually get Gryffindor, but I think I'm a pretty good mixture of the traits from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, as well. The last test I took I scored almost evenly for all three with Slytherin really far behind the others. (I think this particular test was 13 for Gryffindor, 12 for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and 7 for Slytherin).

32TooBrightToShine
Mag 19, 2011, 12:11 pm

#28- LOL, I can't believe I didn't catch that... how ironic :P

Mag 19, 2011, 8:45 pm

Ok, can't hold it in any longer... I'm too impatient. So, people, I totally expect feedback on my idea, and--hopefully--support XD
So, here goes:

My idea was to start a new Harry Potter group, but it would work differently... For example:
-It would be Hogwarts!
-There would be a HoH and prefect for Slyth, Puff, Gryff, and Ravie (I would choose trusted members. If someone goes inactive for more than a month or so, they would be replaced)
-I would sort people according to 5 questions that they would have to answer
-There would be classes and teachers. (I'd have people fill out applications, then choose)
-In classes, people would earn points. At the end of the year, there would be a house cup. The winning house.... well, erm, wins :P (obviously...)I would keep track of the points with both a points thread, and a google doc.
-There would be a Yule Ball (this could be quite fun, if I do it right :)
-Various parties (end of year party, 100 member party, 500 member party, christmas party, etc...)
-A library (this would count as a class)People can write stories, poems, songs, etc and we would give them feedback (only if they want it, of course :)
-A welcome discussion
-A notice board
-My office :)

34Theamwriter
Mag 19, 2011, 10:28 pm

That sounds interesting, though I feel like I have seen that before but not on here, on like the Shelfari wesbite, I think it is. I don't necessarily like the whole inactive for a month they are replaced part, I think it's because I think about people who participate but for some reason may get too busy at some point to have time to do this. (i.e. school, work involving travel, etc) But maybe that's just me.

37TooBrightToShine
Mag 20, 2011, 7:58 am

#34~ Yes, I have started one on Shelfari, and there is also a big one--Keezie's. It is a very popular group.. And it's really fun. So I thought it would be cool to start one on here too... Yes, I know people have stuff to do. But members that are HoHs or prefects have a bit of a commitment, and if they are inactive for a long time without giving me a notice ahead of time, then they may have to be replaced. I don't know if I'll actually go through with that part...

#36~ Hufflepuff's have other traits, such as fun, happy, random, friendly, and stuff... It's really not a bad thing to be in Puff...

47TooBrightToShine

No basilisks... Everyone's a student (Some are teachers too though)... However I MIGHT let there be a detention hall with Filtch, Umbridge and Mrs. Norris (You can make seperate accounts or something...) But I'm not sure that would work, plus it sounds incredibly boring :P

#44~ Only HoHs and Prefects will be removed from their position after a month or so. If you are busy, then you just won't be one in the first place... Students can be on as little or much as they want, so...

Hath not a basilisk eyes? Hath not a basilisk hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, heal'd by the same means,
warm'd and cool'd by the same winter and summer
as a wizard is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us,
do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?

Oh gosh! AP is turning evil!!! Everyone run!!!

I get put in Ravenclaw usually, though sometimes I get gryffindor or hufflepuff. It depends on my mood.

So, AP's turning evil reminded me of the first time I played poker. When my cousins came to visit, we would all play cards, like poker. I was only seven at the time, so I didn't really know that I didn't want other people to know if I had a good hand or a bad hand, and I didn't understand the whole concept of bluffing. Then, once I had it figured out, I got a really awful hand. So I put in really high stakes and reacted really happily once the first card got turned. One person kept going but eventually folded, thinking that I didn't know how to bluff. Of course, I had absolutely nothing in my hand, but when I put down my cards, I still got the whole pot- everyone else had folded. I remember my cousins and brother being really surprised!

Are you sure about the whole evil thing, AP? *sighs* Well, perhaps its for the best...

Rebo - I don't think I'm quite turning evil yet. But perhaps if anyone crosses me we'll see if I have it in me.

Your poker story made me smile! People do change and yet that always seems to surprise us, particularly when we think we know someone well.

Of course, this very issue was addressed by Dumbledore in Deathly Hallows: You know, sometimes I think we sort too soon.

AP- OK, if you say so.... I'm still watching my back!

I'm glad you enjoyed it- Dumbledore always was a wise one!

I wonder how a later sorting would have affected Malfoy.

117foggidawn
Mar 17, 2012, 9:11 pm

I think Malfoy would always have been a Slytherin -- he is always arrogant and scheming, and always convinced of the importance of purity of blood. And I think he always wants to be a Slytherin, which counts at least a little bit.

118ErisofDiscord
Mar 17, 2012, 9:13 pm

Yeah, I think he would've still been a Slytherin, although he might retain a respect for Gryffindor.

Snape is a different story...

119justjukka
Mar 18, 2012, 12:47 am

Snape could've been in Ravenclaw.

120ErisofDiscord
Mar 18, 2012, 1:19 am

I think he was a Gryffindor in the end, because of his bravery. And because of Lily.

I was going on his "if you prefer braun over brains" comment to James.

122varielle
Mar 18, 2012, 1:32 pm

I suspect Snape would have been one of those hard to sort just like Harry.

123read_books
Mar 18, 2012, 2:01 pm

^Then maybe he would be in Slytherin anyways, becuase he wanted to believe that he still wanted to be a Slytherein? Or maybe he'd be in Gryffinfor, becuase of the repect he had for them- a respect he may not have retained for Slytherein, becuase of good old Voldy?

124ErisofDiscord
Mar 18, 2012, 2:05 pm

If Snape has been sorted later on (like Dumbledore was saying when he told Harry that they "sort too soon"), I think he would've been a Gryffindor, because of his great bravery. He wasn't working for self gain, which is what a Slytherin would've done - he was doing everything for Lily.

ErisofDiscord It could be argued- and I'm really just playing Devil's advocate here- that Snape's love of Lily was actually quite selfish. He clung to it bitterly. He never forgave James and he resented Harry unfairly. It was certainly ennobling in many ways, but Snape's love for Lily was still a very Slytherin sort of love. He brooded over his grief, clung to it and allowed it to define him when he could have moved on.
Having said all that, I love Snape's story and think it's one of the most moving parts of the series!

On a more on-topic note, I have just discovered via Pottermore that in spite of my previous beliefs, I'm actually a Hufflepuff rather than a Ravenclaw! I always thought I was a little more 'claw than 'puff but as far as I'm concerned Jo Rowling's word is law, and she wrote the sorting quiz! So looks like I'm joining you, badgers of HE!

I tried the test and got 13 for Slytherin, and 12 for Griffindor, I would prefer Griffindor as the girls are nicer.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd be in Hufflepuff.  Despite wanting to be known for my wisdom above anything else, I was still sorted into Hufflepuff on Pottermore.  The first time, I was sorted into Slytherin because it was easy to gun for.

This individual from Hogwarts Castle is on the lookout for 'Puffs. http://www.librarything.com/topic/157218

Quite some time ago, after reading the Potter books, I took the test and was classified a Ravenclaw; noted on my profile.
I just retook the test; I guess there is something to be said about being consistent:

Most quizzes put me in Hufflepuff (including the one linked here), though a couple had me in either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Pottermore put me in Slytherin!!! Why???

I've since come to the conclusion that I'm Hufflepuff.  Pottermore had something to do with it, but I'm not going to agree with the patronus I was given!  I've actually deleted my Pottermore account, since I have no feel for what they're trying to accomplish with the site, anymore. ^^;
