Dystopian fans might be interested in reading The Ecology of Fear by Mike Davis. Aside from introducing a whole bunch of interesting what-if scenarios, he also has an entire chapter devoted to novels and films that depict the destruction of Los Angeles. He read/watched every single one he could find, groups them into categories and then discusses examples of each type. I found it fascinating.

That sounds a little bit similar to one I just read called $20 Per Gallon by Steiner. He looks at what will happen to the US if gas hits $4/gallon versus $16/gallon. Each chapter works its way up and highlights things that could change. Some changes are bad but overall, it sounds mostly good because he feels that this would only end up bringing communities back together. Not exactly dystopian but close!

There's another like that Six Degrees by Mark Lynas where he goes through what happens as the earth warms an average of one degree for each chapter (until he gets to 6). The first degree was so scary I stopped reading.

Ooo that does sound good! I read The World Without Us last year and it is quite good, and written quite in-depth. Why your world is about to get a whole lot smaller is in mount TBR right now.

Nothing to Envy is about life in North Korea. This book could rival some of the bleakest dystopian fiction.
