Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. My first Group Read of the year. This will begin on January 15th. I will probably post 2 separate spoiler threads. I hope we have a nice turn-out and start this year with a bang!

Gen 1, 2011, 9:23 am

I am in! I bought the book with one of my Christmas gift cards.

Gen 1, 2011, 9:52 am

I'm in too :-)

Gen 1, 2011, 3:35 pm

I am so ready to read this book! Thanks for putting the group read together, Mark!

Gen 1, 2011, 4:00 pm

I am in! Sounds like a great book for a group read.

Gen 1, 2011, 4:46 pm

Posted a link to this group read to the wiki...

Gen 2, 2011, 9:25 am

Got the book from my TBR pile... now's my chance! Thanks for the GR, Mark.
Be back on the 15th!

Gen 4, 2011, 4:06 pm

I'll join you. It was on my 11 in 2011 list already.

Gen 4, 2011, 8:58 pm

I'm in! I'd been hoping to read this book sometime this year; it's been calling to me from its shelf for some time, now, and I just picked up a digital copy for greater ease and portability, too.

Gen 4, 2011, 11:14 pm

I got a copy for the holidays, so I'm going to try and join you. Never done an LT group read before but it sounds fun.

Gen 6, 2011, 5:27 pm

Oh, this is in the reachable stack of books--at the bottom I think--but retrievable. Last year's group reads were so great for me, I'm in.

Gen 6, 2011, 6:10 pm

I already read this book, but I think I will read it again with you :)

I read this book several years ago for a book club I was in. I loved it. It was one of my best reads of that year. I found it puzzling at the beginning and then just plain confused. I stayed with it and it got better. I am really looking forward to hearing what others have to say about it because it is sooooooo good. I hope that somebody else will be as fascinated with an orison as I was. By-the-way, the Oxford English Dictionary needs to update its entry on orison. There is not a single reference in the entry to David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas. For shame OED! Or at least, for shame, editors of the OED.

Benita- Please stop by and leave a comment or 2!!

Looks like we will have a nice turn-out!

I will be breaking this into a 2 week read. It's on the long side, so it might take some readers longer, which is fine.
Here is Week One- Spoiler Thread

Gen 12, 2011, 10:01 pm

I'm 18 pages in! Can't wait to get far enough to discuss. :)

Gen 13, 2011, 3:41 pm

Maybe I can do this? I started *CA* this fall and had to put it down for some forgotten reason. If I don't read it with you, I'll have the thread starred for when I do.

Gen 13, 2011, 4:11 pm

Just bought and downloaded.

Gen 18, 2011, 7:32 pm

Is it too late to join in? Where are people in the book? Should I go to the spoiler page to see what's happening?

Gen 18, 2011, 8:01 pm

Lisa- It's not to late! I'm nearly half-way through but I'm probably reading it a bit faster than everyone else. Remember, this just started Saturday.

Gen 18, 2011, 9:06 pm

I'm only on page 55 at the moment... but plan to move ahead now that I finished the other book I was reading. Jump right in Lisa! :)

Gen 19, 2011, 9:39 am

Not too late to start! I just started late last night and am still at the beginning.

Gen 19, 2011, 12:45 pm

Ok, Mark, I read Cloud Atlas last week. Is this the thread where you just say you're reading it and then you actually discuss the book in the "spoiler" thread?

Gen 19, 2011, 4:41 pm

Whew....almost missed it. I finished Mitchell's Thousand Autumns and on advise from several others, have skipped the 1st chapter for the time being. I'm liking #2, so I think I'll be able to hang in with you all. Thanks for hosting Mark.

Mitchell is definitely a way above average writer....

Gen 19, 2011, 6:00 pm

Never to late guys! It looks like several people are reading this slowly.

Bonnie- Yes! The link for Week One is in Msg# 14.

Tina- I'm already thinking about hosting a Group Read for Thousand Autumns later in the year. I love this guy.

Gen 20, 2011, 7:58 pm

My OT brother just left, so now I have time to read! Finished the first chapter....
