It can be one that you've read online or one that you've read in Japanese.
Mine might be this oneshot called Dou Danjo!? It was really good. ^_^

スキマスキ (SUKIMASUKI) by Yumi Unita. Love it to pieces.

あまんちゅ! (Amanchu!) is also good, in a different way, but I love Kozue Amano's style in a different way than I love Yumi Unita's.

I'm also kind of into FUTAGO-ふたご by Rikako Iketani, would definitely buy it if licensed, and will probably buy it when I can read Japanese (one day...)

I'm waiting for the Rose of Versailles series to get published. It's super old, but my hope springs eternal.

SWITCH GIRL

This manga is so cute and funny! Why hasn't it been licensed in English so everyone can enjoy this little gem? It's already out until volume 11 in French and apparently published by Tokyopop in Germany.

Any thing by Yumi Tamura really. I love her work so much. Her characters are really well written and her stories are genuinely interesting. I highly doubt we shall see any more of her work since Basara did so poorly, but I hasn't stopped me from hoping to see more of her work.

I would also be very happy if someone would pick up Bride of Deimos again. I'd love to see a conclusion to it. I also wouldn't mind seeing more older shoujo since the few I have read I really liked.

I so want Billy Bat by Naoki Urasawa to get licensed.

Ah, Naoki Urasawa! Yes I agree, I love his manga to bits so I would love to see more of it licensed as well. :)

And add Moto Hagio's manga onto my list of manga I want to see in English. Mr.Thorn's new manga company seems to be delivering with A Drunken Dream and a promise to give us Heart of Thomas, so I guess I won't have to wait long to see more of her works in English. :)

I actually don't read too much non-licensed stuff, so I don't have too many titles I would want to see. I would read more of the unlicensed stuff, but all the licensed manga are keeping me busy!

what is SWITCH GIRL about? (I could read it in French)

11> Do you know of "Hotaru no Hikari"? It's basically the same starting premise, but in shoujo form. (Hotaru is a josei manga which was turned into a drama.)

The girl is super fashionable and put-together at school/in public, but when she's home, she wears old jerseys and glasses and doesn't bother with her hair and burps and stuff. There's a guy at school who is pretty much the opposite, and he happens to live in apartment near her family, so they keep running into each other in their "secret" forms.

I honestly couldn't suspend my disbelief enough with it, and I felt that it wasn't as skillfully done as it could have been, but then I've already read most of "Hotaru no Hikari" which has a very similar beginning (only it's about an office lady who lives in her manager's father's house, and then the manager decides he's going to live in that house, too, when his wife leaves them, not knowing that Hotaru is already there, and they have to hide the fact that they share a house, and Hotaru relies on the manager a lot for advice in her burgeoning love life with the office hottie - only it's better than I've described, I think?).

>12 keristars: SWITCH GIRL sounds like Kare Kano

14keristars
Gen 3, 2011, 6:12 pm

13> Perhaps in the beginning of Kare Kano, except SWITCH GIRL is waaay more comedy and the boy is the opposite. I don't remember the boy in Kare Kano being the opposite as the girl? They were both super perfect in public but slobs at home, right?

Also, SWITCH GIRL does ramp everything up to 10 for comedy - the heroine is an absolute slob in private, the boy is a dreamy prince in private. In public, it's the opposite.

Anyway, I think more of Hotaru when I look at the SWITCH GIRL protagonist than I do of the one from Kare Kano.

(I didn't like SWITCH GIRL much, though I read a few chapters. There were too many convenient coincidences and even considering it's a comedy manga, things weren't realistic enough for me. It's a common complaint I have about shoujo lately.)

>5 KiTTY2babe:
Search for it online, some sites still have it up. Pretty much keristars summed up the plot.

>13 Taigamimi:
It IS hard to find realistic shoujo. I'd be pressed to name one that comes close, not even Nana.

Everything in shojou is either super-simplified or dramatically overblown.

>14 keristars:
I think the guy in Kare Kano was genuinely perfect, while the girl was actually a slob. To be honest I didn't really like Kare Kano. It was boring.

I really want Kirarin Revolution to be published in English! I adore cute shoujo manga - especially ones about idols :) I own a couple of them in Japanese, but I can't really read them.

Me too! They really should license it. It's such a cute series

I'm glad someone else agrees! I got into it because of how Koharu Kusumi voices Kirari in the anime! xD

Asides from Kirarin Revolution, I'd really like more manga from Ribon to be licensed (Kirarin isn't Ribon, but that's all right, haha). I've loved every single Ribon series that has been translated, so far....I think I'm missing a few series, but I hope to complete an English-language Ribon collection!

20Taigamimi
Gen 15, 2011, 9:35 am

I don't think they publish as many series from Ribon as Nakayoshi. I have to read them in Japanese, except my Japanese skills are limited so I'd rather have them in english. And Koharu Kusumi as Kirari is great!! >.
