"It is wise to recur to the sentiments and character of those from whom we have descended. The man careless about his ancestry will be equally so about his posterity, even regardless of himself. The man who does not feel himself a link in the great chain to transmit life and being, intellectual and moral existence, from ancestry to posterity, does not appreciate the relations which belong to him." ~~Daniel Webster

Informazione su di me
I have a blog, Reflections from Hog Hill, named after the hill on which our land lies, where I post book reviews, photographs, bird sightings and general thoughts on life. Stop by to see me any time...leave a comment if you wish...I love to have visitors!

I live in a small town in southeastern New Hampshire with my two sons (15 & 17 years old) and two cats. My great-great-grandparents came over in 1855 from the village of Riseley in Bedfordshire, England. We live on the farm they bought in 1864 at the height, or perhaps rather the depths, of the American Civil War, in a house built about 1776, the year of the American Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. It's hard to ignore the relevance of history when it surrounds you every day.

I presently work as Circulation Coordinator at the library of a New England prep school - an independent school for grades 9-12, with a total of 1000 students, 1/4 day students and 3/4 boarders. I enjoy my job very much, particularly running the student work program. I've recently started putting together library exhibits, which is now a close second for favorite activities.

Two years ago, I completed a BS Biology/Environmental Studies (started in 1970!) and I'm now closing in on the end of a Master's of Education in Secondary Education in conjunction with a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation at Plymouth State University. Ironically, now that I'm finally finishing with college, I'm just starting the whole process of college visits with my older son. My schooling has taken a lot of time away from family activities over the last few years, but I'm hoping I was at least serving as a good role model for him for the next few years, and a prime example of why not to wait so long in life to do it!

I spend a lot of time outdoors and wandering around New England - I particularly enjoy visiting Monhegan Island in Maine on spring and fall birdwatching trips. I've also developed a fairly recent interest in Letterboxing, a sort of less well-known and low-tech (no GPS required) version of Geo-caching. I'm a member of my town's Conservation Commission and have worked on various projects involving natural history and land protection.
