La mia biblioteca
I just started to build this selection of my books some days ago. I have a broad field of interests that is focussed what I have termed "My Ulysses Project". This project is a kind of interpretation of Ulysses as an archetype for man through the ages.
1. A kind of "vita activa" concerned with issues related to with Boating, Sailing and Rowing on the one hand and building and tending a house and a garden. That dream of a house and simple and wholesome life of gardening and caring for life is balanced with the dream of one day to set out on an adventure in a small rowing boat, propelled by myself to do what Homers Ulysses was advised to by Tiresias; To seek piece, redemption with the Gods. This includes also a lot of naval fiction and an interest in everything for everything related to the "Age of Oar & Sail".
2. On the one hand and a more "vita contemplativa" concerned with thinking about Architecture, Art, Classic Literature, Poetry, Philosophy on the one hand and a kind of grappling with metaphysics that is related to Zen Buddhism and an involvement with Spinoza, Heidegger etc. and phenomenology/existentialism. These topics are also related to the idea of Ulysses, not as a plaything of the gods, but also man striving to liberate himself from the tyranny of the Gods. He has been all to successful in his endeavor and have spoiled his nest. We have obviously gone too far.
Informazione su di me
Senior Architect,Simple living by the Sea. Reading. Writing. Gardening, Building our house, Sailing & Rowing. I am deeply inspired by poetry. In my present situation for instance Tennysons "Ulysses";

There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail:
There gloom the dark broad seas. My mariners,
Souls that have toil'd, and wrought, and thought with me —
That ever with a frolic welcome took
The thunder and the sunshine, and opposed
Free hearts, free foreheads — you and I are old;
Old age hath yet his honour and his toil;
Death closes all: but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep
Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
