I love books that surprise me, that are complex, and that are beautifully written. I adore good literature, both classic and contemporary -- although I have a bit of a problem with the "navel-gazing" in much current literature. (Western society seems to have been in this mode since the 1960s, when the Inner Child became something of a Poster Child, and all social dialogue seemed to center around what Carolyn Myss calls "woundology." Certainly there is value in self-inspection, but surely the ultimate goal is to move outward into ACTION within one's community?) There are also many wonderful non-fiction books that are profound and elegantly written, and I joyously include these in my library.
Informazione su di me
A singer-comedian since 1979, I began doing theatre improvisation in 1988. In 1989, in the never-ending search for what actors affectionately call a "day job," I began teaching at a state-sanctioned traffic school that used comedians as instructors. This experience, in which initially-resistant learners consistently became highly involved and enthusiastic, excited me about the role of laughter in learning. I founded my corporate training company, HumorRULES®, in 1993.

My books espouse teaching and training through humor -- in particular theatre improv-derived games. My first book, THE BIG BOOK OF HUMOROUS TRAINING GAMES (McGraw Hill, 2000), contains 50 games for training business people in communication skills. My second book, LAUGH AND LEARN: 95 WAYS TO USE HUMOR FOR MORE EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND TRAINING (AMACOM Books, 2002), seeks to show connections between recent brain research and ongoing humor research; argue that humor enhances brain function; and offer techniques for using humor and play, both in teaching and general communication. From my reading, research, and experience, humor really does RULE!
