I have about 1000 volumes in storage back in Appalchia, although I've been able to bring about 100 books up to the Arctic with me. Since the only way either in or out of here for 8 months of the year is by air, my local collection will likely expand only very slowly. Still I have some great works up here with me.

After 20 years as a university geography professor with topical specializations in hydroclimatology and oceanography, and a regional focus on the Circumpolar Arctic, I relocated to a small village on the North Slope of Alaska this past fall about 10 linear miles south of the central Beaufort Sea coast on the Arctic Ocean. It has been my dream since I was a youngster growing up in California to one day experience the Arctic; so here I finally am some 50 years later.
