- Informazione su di me
I am a retired English teacher living in Birmingham, Al. As you would probably assume, I’ve always loved reading. I can remember being read to as a child, then greatly enjoying reading for myself. Favorite books included the Black Stallion series by Walter Farley; my sister and I consumed each new book in that series as quickly as we could.
In retirement I have read widely, no longer having to focus my interests on required reading for the classroom. Until last year, I did not keep a list of books read, but the Covid isolation and limitation on activities made me think that would be fun. I was surprised at the end of the year to count 74 books on the list, which included a variety of contemporary fiction, older 20th century fiction, ccontemporary nonfiction, and rereads of some favorite classics. My reading goals for 2021 are to read widely again with some focus on 19th century classics, Southern fiction, and a selection of history, biography, and social analysis.
Some favorite books from 2020: Christy Lefteri’s The Beekeeper of Aleppo; Diane Setterfield’s Once Upon a River; N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy; James Meek’s To Calais in Ordinary Time; Charles Dickens’ Bleak House; Toni Morrison’s Beloved; Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing; Robert MacFarlane’s Underland; and Annie Dillard’s For the Time Being. My reading thread: https://www.librarything.com/topic/347545#unread
